Ferenc Koncz
Ferenc Koncz (2 October 1959 – 10 July 2020) was a Hungarian teacher and politician, member of the National Assembly (MP) for Szerencs (Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Constituency XI) from 2010 to 2014, and for Tiszaújváros (Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Constituency VI) from 2018 until his death. He was also a Member of Parliament from the Fidesz Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County between 1998 and 2002, and from the party's National List from 2004 to 2006. He served as Mayor of Szerencs from 2010 to 2018. Profession He was born in Tornaszentjakab on 2 October 1959. He finished his secondary studies at the Secondary Technical School of Machine Industry in Miskolc in 1978, where he acquired machine production technologist qualifications. National Assembly (Hungary)
The National Assembly ( hu, Országgyűlés, lit=Country Assembly) is the parliament of Hungary. The unicameral body consists of 199 (386 between 1990 and 2014) members elected to 4-year terms. Election of members is done using a semi-proportional representation: a mixed-member majoritarian representation with partial compensation via transfer votes and mixed single vote; involving single-member districts and one list vote; parties must win at least 5% of the popular vote in order to gain list seats assembly. The Assembly includes 25 standing committees to debate and report on introduced bills and to supervise the activities of the ministers. 2020 Tiszaújváros By-election
The 2020 by-elections in Tiszaújváros were held on 11 October 2020 in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County No. 6. in the individual constituency of the Parliament. The election had to be called due to the death of Ferenc Koncz, a Member of Parliament in the constituency. The main stake in the election was whether the Fidesz could maintain a two-thirds majority in the parliament. Until the death of Ferenc Koncz, the Fidesz–KDNP coalition had 133 members - 66.8 percent of all members - in the 199-member Parliament, and thus the loss of a single member would have meant that the governing coalition would not have been able to pass key laws without opposition members. Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Alliance (; hu, Fidesz – Magyar Polgári Szövetség) is a right-wing populist and national-conservative political party in Hungary, led by Viktor Orbán. It was formed in 1988 under the name of Alliance of Young Democrats () as a centre-left and liberal activist movement that opposed the ruling Marxist–Leninist government.
