Zornik
Zornik is a Belgian rock music, rock band. It was formed in 1999 by singer and guitarist Koen Buyse, drummer Marijn Horemans and bass guitarist Kristof Vanduren. History The band made it in 1999 to the finals of HUMO's Rock Rally rock contest, under the name Zornik Breknov. There, the band was spotted by Parlophone Belgium and MTC Management. This led to the recording of their first EP, ''Love Affair''. It stayed in Belgium's leading alternative charts at Studio Brussel, for more than 10 weeks since March 2001. The second EP, ''It's so unreal'', remained in the alternative charts for more than 20 weeks, reaching number 3. Zornik played in 2001 at important summer festivals: Eurorock, Marktrock and Pukkelpop. They gave a business presentation at A2A and also appeared at Eurosonic. ''Crosses'' is the fourth studio album by the Belgian rock band Zornik. It was released on May 13, 2007 via Parlophone/EMI Music Belgium. Recording sessions took place at Temple Studios in Malta. Production was handled by members Koen Buyse and Bas Remans. The album peaked at number 3 on the Belgian Albums chart of Flemish region. It was supported with three singles: "Black Hope Shot Down", "The Backseat" and "Get Whatever You Want". Its lead single, "Black Hope Shot Down", reached number 21 on the Belgian Singles chart of Flemish region. Pukkelpop is an annual music festival that takes place near the city of Hasselt, Belgium in mid- to late August. It is held within a large enclosure of fields and woodland—adjacent to a dual carriageway called ''Kempische Steenweg''—in the village of Kiewit, approximately 7 km north of Hasselt. It is one of the largest music festivals in Belgium, with an attendance of 180,000 over the course of the event in 2009. Marktrock
Marktrock is a music festival held each year around 15 August, in the heart of the university town of Leuven, Belgium. There is also a smaller Marktrock festival in Poperinge, which is held on the last Saturday of August. The name Marktrock comes from the Dutch word , meaning market, and it is held on 2 squares (4 until 24th edition) in the historical city center of Leuven: " Oude Markt" and "Ladeuzeplein". Until the 24th edition (2006), the three-day festival always had 15 August Assumption Day as its last day. In 2004, the 22nd edition of the Marktrock festival was held in Leuven and it has grown into one of Europe's biggest urban music festivals with over 350,000 visitors each year. HUMO's Rock Rally
Humo's Rock Rally is a Belgian contest for rock bands, organized every second year since 1978. It is organized by the Belgian magazine ''HUMO''. Every band that has not yet released an official recording, may enter the Rock Rally, by submitting a demo to ''HUMO''. ''HUMO'' then selects 100 bands to compete in the pre-selections, followed by semi-finals and a final with 10 bands. The competing bands are assessed by a professional jury. Money prizes are awarded to the top three bands, as well as to one band chosen by the audience. The Rock Rally is an important possibility for young Belgian rock bands to get in the picture. Hurricane Festival
The Hurricane Festival, also just Hurricane, is a music festival that has taken place at the Eichenring, a speedway race track, in Scheeßel, Germany, since 1997. With more than 80,000 attendees (2022) it is one of the largest music festivals in Germany. Southside Festival, often referred to as Hurricane's "sister" festival, takes place on the same three days and has largely the same line-up. Zonhoven (; ) is a municipality located in the middle of the Belgian province of Limburg located north of Hasselt and also borders Houthalen-Helechteren, Genk and Heusden-Zolder.
