Zoo (C-Train)
Zoo station is a CTrain light rail station in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is on the Blue Line between Bridgeland/Memorial and Barlow/Max Bell stations. It opened on April 22, 1985 as part of the original Blue Line. The station serves the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo, the Telus Spark science museum as well as the community of Bridgeland. Location and station layout The station has a single island platform. The station is located between the two lanes of Memorial Drive, with a tunnel connecting the station north to its park and ride and another tunnel connecting the station south to the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. Art Stylistically, the design of Zoo station differs from the other stations in the CTrain system as it incorporates images of animals and dinosaurs. Bridgeland-Riverside, formerly known as Bridgeland and Germantown, is a neighbourhood in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is located northeast of Downtown Calgary. It is bounded to the south by the Bow River, to the east by Deerfoot Trail, to the west by Edmonton Trail and to the north by the community of Renfrew. CTrain (previously branded C-Train) is a light rail rapid transit system in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. An alternative arrangement is to position side platforms on either side of the tracks. The historical use of island platforms depends greatly upon the location. Memorial Drive (Calgary)
Memorial Drive (formerly ''Sunnyside Boulevard'') is a major road in Calgary, Alberta. Aside from its important role in city infrastructure, the tree lined sides of Memorial Drive serve as a living testament to the many local soldiers who died during World War I and give it a parkway look on the western section. An active path system also runs along the south side of Memorial Drive, beside the banks of the Bow River. The Calgary Soldiers' Memorial forms part of an extensive renovation to Memorial Drive, which heightens the function of the road as a monument to the city's military. TELUS Spark Science Centre is a science museum with interactive exhibits, multimedia presentations and educational demonstrations in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo
The Calgary Zoo is located in Bridgeland, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, just east of the city's downtown and adjacent to the Inglewood and East Village neighborhoods.
