Zombie Ball
The zombie ball is a classic magic trick first introduced by Joe Karson in the 1940s. It remains a staple of many shows to this day. ''Magic's Biggest Secrets'' called it one of the most popular tricks in the world. Effect A large metal ball is positioned on a small pedestal on a table by the magician. The magician then holds a sizable silk cloth above the ball to cover it. The ball then begins to lift into the air and move about under the cloth, before appearing out from under cloth to roll along the upper edge of the stretched-out cloth, or along the magician's arms. The ball may also disappear and re-appear as it moves about. The ball is finally coaxed to return to its pedestal and the cloth is removed. Method The usual way this effect is done is with a rod that clips to the finger, and is hidden from view by the cloth. ''Breaking the Magician's Code: Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed'' is a series of television shows in which the methods behind magic tricks and illusions are explained. In its original incarnation there were four shows in 1997–1998 and a special in 2002 broadcast on the Fox network in the United States, and on Sky and ITV in the United Kingdom. In 2008–2009, a new series of thirteen shows was broadcast by MyNetworkTV in the United States and ITV4 in the United Kingdom. On May 1, 2012, reruns of the first season began airing on BIO in the United States. Glorpy
Glorpy, sometimes known as the Haunted Handkerchief, is a close-up magic trick. The effect is that a ghost or spirit is captured in a folded handkerchief that then makes the handkerchief move. This effect is also used in demonstrations of spirit writing when shown in a seance or mentalism context. Simple versions have been performed for years. A modern version by Bill Madden and Bernie Trueblood was created circa 1960 and declared the "Trick of the Millennium" by ''Genii, the conjurer's magazine''.Richard Kaufman"Knack Magic Tricks" Rowman & Littlefield, 2010, pp. 140-142. Effect A silk pocket handkerchief is laid down on a table. The magician snatches a ghost named Glorpy out of the air and traps it in the handkerchief by folding it over.
