Ziv Bar-Joseph
Ziv Bar-Joseph () is an Israeli computational biologist and Professor in the Computational Biology Department and the Machine Learning Department at the Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science. Bar-Joseph is also a Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer at GenBio AI. Education Bar-Joseph studied computer science at Bachelor of Science (1997) and Master of Science (1999) level, both at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He gained his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in computer science in 2003, under the supervision of David K. Gifford and Tommi S. Jaakkola. Following this, he was a postdoctoral research, postdoctoral associate at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) and the Whitehead Institute. Intelligent Systems For Molecular Biology
Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology (ISMB) is an annual academic conference on the subjects of bioinformatics and computational biology organised by the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB). The principal focus of the conference is on the development and application of advanced computational methods for biological problems. The conference has been held every year since 1993 and has grown to become one of the largest and most prestigious meetings in these fields, hosting over 2,000 delegates in 2004. Hebrew (; ''ʿÎbrit'') is a Northwest Semitic language within the Afroasiatic language family. Michal Linial (Hebrew: מיכל ליניאל) is a Professor of Biochemistry and Bioinformatics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI). Linial is the Director of The Sudarsky Center for Computational Biology at HUJI. Since 2015, she is head of the ELIXIR-Israel node (European life-sciences Infrastructure for biological Information). Linial was elected a fellow of the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) in 2016, for outstanding contributions to the fields of computational biology and bioinformatics and served on the Board of Directors (2005–2016), and as a Vice-President (2007–2016), of the ISCB. She was a Director at the Israel Institute for Advanced Studies (IIAS) from 2012 to 2018. She earned her BA from Tel Aviv University in 1979, her MA from UCLA in 1981, and her PhD in molecular biology from HUJI in 1986. Shoham () is a town in the Central District of Israel. The name relates to one of the 12 stones on the Hoshen, the sacred breastplate worn by a Jewish high priest (Exodus 28:20), similar to other nearby towns: Nofekh, Bareket, Leshem and Ahlama (the former name of Beit Arif).
