Zinc Selenide
Zinc selenide is the inorganic compound with the formula ZnSe. It is a lemon-yellow solid although most samples have a duller color due to the effects of oxidation. It is an intrinsic semiconductor with a band gap of about 2.70 eV at , equivalent to a wavelength of 459 nm. ZnSe occurs as the rare mineral stilleite, named after Hans Stille. Synthesis and properties ZnSe is available in both hexagonal (wurtzite) and cubic (zincblende) polymorphs. In both cases, the Zn2+ and Se2− sites are tetrahedral. The difference in the structures related to close packing motifs, hexagonal vs cubic. Stilleite
Stilleite is a selenide mineral, zinc selenide, with the formula Zn Se. It has been found only as microscopic gray crystals occurring as inclusions in linnaeite associated with other selenide and sulfides. It was originally discovered in Katanga Province, Zaire in 1956 and is named for the German geologist, Hans Stille (1876–1966). It has been reported from the Santa Brigida mine, La Rioja Province, Argentina and from Tilkerode ( Abberode) in the Harz Mountains, Germany. In semiconductor production, doping is the intentional introduction of impurities into an intrinsic (undoped) semiconductor for the purpose of modulating its electrical, optical and structural properties.
