''Zigor'' (Basque language, Basque: ''Punishment'') is the first opera in four acts written by Francisco Escudero (composer), Francisco Escudero in 1962, commissioned by the Bilbao Association of Friends of the Opera (Asociación Bilbaína de Amigos de la Ópera, ABAO.) Its libretto was written in Basque by and Escudero. It is based on a story by {{ill, José Zinkunegi, eu. ''Zigor'' first performance was an abridged concert version on 4 October 1967 in the Coliseo Albia in Bilbao. One year later, on 6 June 1968, it was presented for the first time in the Teatro de la Zarzuela, Zarzuela Theatre in Madrid. Life and career

He was born in Zarautz (Gipuzkoa), on August 13, 1912. He began his musical studies at the San Sebastián Municipal Music Academy with Beltrán Pagola, and continued in Madrid, where he was a Composition student of Conrado del Campo. He was awarded the Spanish National Fine Arts Award (''Premio Nacional de Bellas Artes'') for his ''Trío bucólico'' in 1937. During the Spanish Civil War he moved to France.
