Zhukovsky Airfield
Zhukovsky (), formerly (and still occasionally) known as Ramenskoye () is an international airport, located in Moscow Oblast, Russia, southeast of central Moscow, in the city of Zhukovsky, a few kilometers south-east of the closed Bykovo Airport. History ZIA Airport official logo before March 2025 The airfield began as a military airbase, originally assigned in 1941 to the newly established Flight Research Institute which served as a USSR aircraft testing establishment, with most of the major Russian OKBs having facilities there. The airfield was used as a test site in the 1980s for the Soviet Buran Spacecraft. It was also used by the Ministry of Emergency Situations and cargo carriers. Zhukovsky (, ) is a types of inhabited localities in Russia, city in Moscow Oblast, Russia, located on the Moskva River, southeast of Moscow. Population: History The urban-type settlement of Stakhanovo was founded in 1935 from the dacha settlement Otdykh (literally, "Relaxation"). The Mikoyan MiG-29 (; NATO reporting name: Fulcrum) is a twin-engine fighter aircraft designed in the Soviet Union. Developed by the Mikoyan design bureau as an air superiority fighter during the 1970s, the MiG-29, along with the larger Sukhoi Su-27, was developed to counter U.S. fighters such as the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle and the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon. MAKS (, ) is an international air show held at Zhukovsky International Airport, the home of the Gromov Flight Research Institute in Zhukovsky, Moscow Oblast, Zhukovsky, southeast of Moscow, Russia. The event was organized by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade (Russia), Ministry of Industry and Trade until 2009, more recently by the Government of Moscow and Aviasalon. The first show, Mosaeroshow-92, was held in 1992. Since 1993, the air show was renamed as MAKS and is held biennially on odd years. MAKS is an important event for the Russian aviation industry and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Although it started mainly as an entertainment event, the show soon became a marketplace where Russian aerospace companies could negotiate export contracts and Russian air carriers could make foreign contacts. Ramenskoye (, ) is a town and the administrative center of Ramensky District in Moscow Oblast, Russia, located southeast of Moscow.
