Zhelyazkov Government
The Zhelyazkov Government is the 105th and current cabinet of Bulgaria. It was approved by the parliament of Bulgaria on the 16th of January, 2025. The cabinet is a minority coalition government with ministers nominated from GERB, BSP–OL and ITN. The cabinet was initially elected with the support of APS. However, on 16 April 2025, following disagreements with the government and the passing of legislation with DPS–NN, the party announced it would no longer support the government. The government's primary commitment has been the country's entry into the eurozone in 2026. Though the government is not committed to creating a formal deal, it has been widely reported on and accepted that the government's majority depends on the support of DPS–NN. The government has also received partial support from PP–DB in no-confidence votes, due to the coalition supporting the government's target of Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone. Rumen Radev
Rumen Georgiev Radev (, born 18 June 1963) is a Bulgarian politician and former major general who has been the President of Bulgaria since 2017. Radev previously served as higher commander of the Bulgarian Air Force. He won the 2016 Bulgarian presidential election, 2016 presidential election as an Independent politician, independent candidate supported by the Bulgarian Socialist Party, defeating GERB candidate Tsetska Tsacheva in the second round. Velichie
Velichie (, ) is a Bulgarian political party founded in 2023, with strong connections to the Bulgarian businessman, Ivelin Mihaylov. The party has a strong position in the Vetrino Municipality and received parliamentary representation following the June 2024 Bulgarian parliamentary election. Following the October snap election, the party won 3.999% of the vote, falling short by just 21 votes of the 4% threshold required to gain representation in the 51st National Assembly. However, after the Constitutional Court ruled that Velichie passed the threshold following a recount, the party gained 10 seats in parliament. Bulgaria And The Euro
Bulgaria is expected to adopt the euro on 1 January 2026, which would make it the 21st member state of the eurozone. When Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007 it committed to join the eurozone and replace its currency with the euro. In February 2025, the country officially requested off-cycle assessments of their convergence by the European Commission and ECB to determine the country's readiness. The 2025 convergence reports published on 4 June 2025 concluded that Bulgaria met the convergence criteria. The Bulgarian lev has been under a currency board since 1997, with a fixed exchange rate initially against the Deutsche Mark and subsequently its replacement, the euro. The convergence exchange rate is fixed at 1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN.
