Zhangbei Town
Zhangbei () is a town in and the seat of government of Zhangbei County, Hebei, China. It served as the capital of the Imperial Japanese puppet state, Mengjiang from 1 September 1939–19 August 1945. When referring to Administrative divisions of China#Township level (4th), political divisions of China, town is the standard English translation of the Chinese (traditional: ; zh, p=zhèn , w=chen4). The Constitution of the People's Republic of China classifies towns as fourth-level administrative units, along with, for example, Townships of China, townships ( zh, s=乡 , p=xiāng). A township is typically smaller in population and more remote than a town. Zhangbei County (), in northwestern Hebei province, China, is a county formerly in the Chahar (province), Chahar province. Its name, which literally means "North of Zhang[jiakou]", derives from the fact that it is north-northeast of Zhangjiakou. Zhangbei Town is the seat of the county government. Mengjiang
Mengjiang, also known as Mengkiang, officially the Mengjiang United Autonomous Government, was an autonomous zone in Inner Mongolia, formed in 1939 as a puppet state of the Empire of Japan, then from 1940 being under the nominal sovereignty of the Reorganized National Government of the Republic of China (which was itself also a puppet state).
