Zeynel A. Karcioglu
Zeynel A. Karcioglu (born June 12, 1946) is a medical and surgical practitioner, researcher and medical educator. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, specializing in Ophthalmic Oncology and Pathology particularly in areas of retinoblastoma, external eye tumors, and primary and metastatic orbital neoplasms. Karcioglu is also residency and fellowship trained in Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology and certified by the American Board of Pathology. Biography Early life and education Karcioglu is a Turkish-American who was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1946. In 1969, he received his medical degree at the Hacettepe University Medical School, Hacettepe University School of Medicine in Ankara,following residency trainings at Tulane University and Emory University School of Medicine in Ophthalmology and Pathology, respectively. The American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists ( eye physicians and surgeons) in the United States of America. Founded in 1916, the ABO was the first American Board established to certify medical specialists. The ABO is the founding member of the American Board of Medical Specialties. Originally, a combined board of Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology, the specialties split into two board backed specialties in the 1960s.
