Zeravani ( ar, نادي زيرفاني, ku-2, یانه ی زێڕه ڤانی) is a sports club based in Duhok, Iraqi Kurdistan, Iraq. It was formed in 2011, entering competition in the Kurdish Premier League. It used the same stadium and same colours as Peris FC. Zeravani SC were champions of the 2012–13 Kurdish Premier League season and runners-up of the 2015–16 Iraqi Women's Football League season. Duhok, Iraq
Duhok ( ku, دهۆک, translit=Dihok; ar, دهوك, Dahūk; syr, ܒܝܬ ܢܘܗܕܪܐ, Beth Nohadra) is a city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It's the capital city of Duhok Governorate. History The city's origin dates back to the Stone Age, and it became part of the Assyrian Empire, then the Babylonian Empire before it fell into the hands of Achaemenid Empire after the Fall of Babylon, and subsequently fell into the hands of Alexander the Great and the Romans. It became an important center of Syriac Christianity where it was known as "ܒܝܬ ܢܘܗܕܪܐ" ''Beth Nohdry'', before fading out after the conquests of Mesopotamia by Tamerlane. According to Evliya Çelebi, the city was initially called ''Dohuk-e Dasinya,'' named after the militant Dasini tribe who were believers of Yazidism. Peris Sports Club ( ar, نادي بيرس الرياضي) was a sports club based in Duhok, Iraqi Kurdistan, Iraq. History In Premier League The club participated in the Iraqi Premier League for the first time in the 2003–04 season. The following season, the club was relegated to the Iraq Division One. The club was promoted back to the Premier League in 2007–08 and had its most successful season by reaching the Elite Stage. The Iraqi Premier League ( ar, الدوري العراقي الممتاز) is the top level of the Iraqi football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Iraq Division One. The league was formed by the IFA in 1974 as the Iraqi National Clubs First Division, the first nationwide league of clubs in Iraq. The current format sees 20 teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away), totalling 380 matches in the season. Of the 80 teams to have competed since the inception of the league in 1974, eleven have won the title. Al-Zawraa SC, Al-Zawraa are the most successful club with 14 titles, followed by Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Talaba SC, Al-Talaba and Al-Shorta SC, Al-Shorta, who together contest the Baghdad derbies. The 2015–16 Iraqi Women's Football League was the first season of the Iraqi Women's Football League, which started on 25 April 2016 and ended on 19 July 2016. Ghaz Al-Shamal won the title coached by Qasim Jameel by beating Zeravani 1–0 in the final. Group stage North Group Central Group The Biladi–Al-Miqdadiya match originally ended 1–1 and was set to go to a penalty shootout, however Al-Miqdadiya refused to take penalties and Biladi were thus awarded a walkover victory. Golden stage Semi-finals The Ghaz Al-Shamal–Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya match was 2–2 with five minutes left when Ghaz Al-Shamal were awarded a penalty. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya players refused to continue the match in protest at the refereeing, therefore Ghaz Al-Shamal were awarded a walkover victory.
