Zeke Thurston (born July 15, 1994) is a Canadian professional rodeo cowboy who specializes in saddle bronc riding. He is a four-time (2016, 2019, 2022, and 2023) Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) World Champion saddle bronc rider, as well as a five-time (2019, 2021-2024) Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) champion saddle bronc rider. Early life Zeke Thurston was born on July 15, 1994, in Big Valley, Alberta, Canada. He attended and graduated from Sheridan College. His father, Skeeter Thurston, was a six-time National Finals Rodeo (NFR) qualifier. Professional career Thurston competes in the PRCA circuit. In 2016, he won the saddle bronc riding world championship at the National Finals Rodeo. He beat Jacobs Crawley by less than $3,000. Big Valley is a village in central Alberta, Canada that is southeast of Red Deer. It is located south of Stettler and north of Drumheller on Highway 56 in the County of Stettler No. 6. Billy Etbauer (born January 15, 1963) is an American former professional rodeo cowboy who specialized in saddle bronc riding. He competed on the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) circuit along with his two brothers, Robert and Dan. He won the PRCA saddle bronc riding world championship five times. The National Finals Rodeo (NFR) is the premier championship rodeo of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). It showcases the talents of the PRCA's top 15 money winners in the season for each event. The NFR is held each year in the first full week of December, at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) in Paradise, Nevada, United States, and is aired live on The Cowboy Channel. The Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) is the governing body of professional rodeo in Canada. Its championship event is the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) held every autumn. History The Canadian Professional Rodeo Organization was founded in 1944. It started when some cowboys joined up to create the Cowboys Insurance Association when each cowboy added $1 to create an insurance fund. Rodeo management matched that amount to increase the insurance fund. A year later in 1945, they renamed the organization the Cowboys Protective Association (CPA). Under the Societies Act, they completed the necessary actions to become an association. This enabled the organization to serve its members in a more general way.
