Zeb Terry
Zebulon Alexander Terry (June 17, 1891 – March 14, 1988) was a professional baseball player who played infielder in the Major Leagues from - for the Boston Braves, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, and Pittsburgh Pirates. He played college baseball at Stanford University. Terry made his big-league debut on April 12, 1916, starting at shortstop for the White Sox against the Detroit Tigers in a game at Comiskey Park. He went hitless with a walk, but teammates didn't fare much better that day against Detroit's Harry Coveleski, who pitched a three-hit shutout. Sparingly used by the Sox, and hitting just .190 as a rookie, Terry ended up changing teams in 1918, 1919 and 1920. He found his greatest success with the Cubs, getting most of his 605 career hits for them. In the 1922 season, his last in the majors, Terry led the National League in sacrifice hits with 22. An infielder is a baseball player stationed at one of four defensive "infield" positions on the baseball field. Standard arrangement of positions In a game of baseball, two teams of nine players take turns playing offensive and defensive roles. Although there are many rules to baseball, in general the team playing offense tries to score runs by batting balls into the field that enable runners to make a complete circuit of the four bases. The team playing in the field tries to prevent runs by catching the ball before it hits the ground, by tagging runners with the ball while they are not touching a base, or by throwing the ball to first base before the batter who hit the ball can run from home plate to first base. Anthony Keith Gwynn Sr. (May 9, 1960 – June 16, 2014), nicknamed "Mr. Padre", was an American professional baseball right fielder, who played 20 seasons (1982–2001) in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the San Diego Padres. The left-handed hitting Gwynn won eight batting titles in his career, tied for the most in National League (NL) history. He is considered one of the best and most consistent hitters in baseball history. Gwynn had a .338 career batting average, never hitting below .309 in any full season. He was a 15-time All-Star, recognized for his skills both on offense and defense with seven Silver Slugger Awards and five Gold Glove Awards. Chase Cameron Utley (born December 17, 1978), nicknamed "The Man" and "Silver Fox", is an American former professional baseball second baseman who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 16 seasons, primarily for the Philadelphia Phillies.
