Zbigniew Gorzelańczyk
Zbigniew Gorzelańczyk (31 July 1944 – 6 February 1996) was a Polish politician, and Sejm deputy for two terms until his death in 1996. Gorzelańczyk graduated from the Academy of Physical Education in Wroclaw in 1968, and the Political University in Moscow in 1983. He was elected twice in the Leszno-Zielona Góra and Leszno districts of the Democratic Left Alliance. Gorzelańczyk and parliament member Marek Wielgus were killed in the 1996 crash of Birgenair Flight 301 in the Dominican Republic. Birgenair Flight 301
Birgenair Flight 301 was a flight chartered by Turkish-managed Birgenair partner Alas Nacionales from San Felipe de Puerto Plata, Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic to Frankfurt, Germany, via Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, Gander, Canada, and Berlin, Germany. On 6 February 1996, the Boeing 757-200 operating the route crashed shortly after take-off from Puerto Plata's Gregorio Luperón International Airport, killing all 189 people on board. The cause was pilot error after receiving incorrect airspeed information from one of the pitot tubes, which investigators believe was blocked by a Sphecidae, wasp nest built inside it. Marek Wielgus
Marek Wielgus (20 December 1950 – 6 February 1996) was a Polish sports activist, photographer, and Sejm deputy on his second-term. He died with Zbigniew Gorzelańczyk on 6 February 1996 on Birgenair Flight 301. Biography Wielgus had a diverse career, excelling in sports photography, entrepreneurship, and politics. After graduating from the School of Artistic Crafts in Warsaw in 1970, he began working with publications such as the "Sportowiec" magazine and later established his own magazine called "Mecz" (Match). His talent in sports photography led him to cover the FIFA World Cup on four occasions. Not limited to photography, Wielgus also founded the first Laboratory of Professional Photography in Poland. He published several photo albums and curated exhibitions showcasing his own works. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Wielgus was involved in the football scene.
