Zakir Baghirov (composer)
Zakir Javad oghlu Baghirov ( az, Zakir Cavad oğlu Bağırov, March 16, 1916 — January 8, 1996) was an Azerbaijani composer, professor, and Honored Art Worker of the Azerbaijan SSR. Biography Zakir Baghirov was born on March 16, 1916, in Shusha. After graduating from the Moscow State Conservatory in 1949, he worked as a teacher at the Hajibeyov Azerbaijan State Conservatoire. From 1970 he was the head of the department of music theory. He has been a member of the Composers Union of Azerbaijan since 1950, as well as a member of the Board of this union. In different years he worked as the art director of the Muslim Magomayev Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall, the art director of the Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of the Republic, the chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Music Foundation. AzTV or Azerbaijan Television ( az, Azərbaycan Televiziyası) is a state-controlled national television channel in Azerbaijan. The Medal "For Distinguished Labour" (russian: Медаль «За трудовое отличие») was a civilian labour award of the Soviet Union bestowed to especially deserving workers to recognise and honour high performances in labour or contributions in the fields of science, culture or the manufacturing industry. In just over fifty years of existence, it was bestowed to over two million deserving citizens. It was established on 27 December 1938 by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Its statute was amended three times by further decrees, firstly on 19 June 1943 to amend its description and ribbon, then on 16 December 1947 to amend its regulations, and finally on 18 July 1980 to confirm all previous amendments. The medal ceased to be awarded following the December 1991 dissolution of the Soviet Union. Mirza Mansur Mashadi Malik oghlu Mansurov ( az, Mirzə Mansur Məşədi Məlik oğlu Mansurov, January 5, 1887 — June 30, 1967) was an Azerbaijani tar player, pedagogue, Honored Art Worker of the Azerbaijan SSR. Biography Mirza Mansur was born on January 5, 1887, in Baku. At the age of 11, he studied at a madrasa in the Siniggala Mosque and learned Persian perfectly. Mirza Mansur's father Mashadi Malik bey is known as the founder of Baku Mugham Gatherings. Mirza Mansur took his first tar lessons from the tar player Mirza Faraj Rzayev. His first mugham performances were "Shur" and "Rast". Mirza Mansur was a worthy successor of Sadigjan school. he was known as a mugham theorist. After 1920, he taught tar at the Eastern Conservatory, and in 1923 at the Azerbaijan State Turkish Music College organized by Uzeyir Hajibeyov. Rast Panjgah (or Rast; fa, راست پنج گاه) is the name of a '' dastgah'' (musical mode) in Iranian music and of a ''maqam'' in Arabic and related systems of music. ''Rast'' () is a Persian word meaning "right" or "direct". Rast is regarded as the basic ''dastgah'' in Iranian music and later on was adopted in Arabic and Turkish makam music, in the same way as the major scale in Western music, though it is rather different from the major scale in detail.
