Tazzarine
Tazzarine ( ar, تازارين, , also spelled as Tazarine) is a small city and rural commune in Zagora Province, Morocco. It is located at around in the area of the Jbel Saghro. The commune includes the small villages of Tamsahelte, Timarighin and Oum raman. The neighboring municipalities are N'kob in the northwest, Taghbalt and Ait Boudaoud. The town has about five marabout tombs. All these graves are for spiritual leadership. Nearby Tazzarine is the petroglyphs site of Ait Ouazik. These rock carvings date from approximately 5000 years BC. According to the 2004 population estimation, the town has a population of about 13,721 people. Tamegroute
Tamegroute (also spelled Tamgrout; Berber: ⵜⴰⵎⴳⵔⵓⵜ , Arabic: تامكروت) is a village located in the Draa River valley in southern Morocco. It historically served as a hub of learning and religion through its famous Sufi zawiya. This was a historical center of the Nasiriyya order, one of the most influential (and at one time one of the largest) Sufi orders in the Islamic world. Tamegroute's glazed ceramics are also very well known. Climate Zawiya Nasiriyya/Naciria History Tamegroute has been a religious center since the 11th century. The Nasiriyya zawiya was founded in the 17th century as the seat of the religious (Sufi) brotherhood of the Nasiriyya. Tamegroute had a religious school made famous by Abu Hafs Umar b. Ahmed al Ansari in 1575–76. Tagounite
Tagounite is a rural Moroccan commune in the Zagora Province, Drâa-Tafilalet, Morocco, with about 17,412 inhabitants as of the 2004 census. Tagounite is known for its abandoned kasbahs, as well as numerous meteorites found in the area. It counted a sizeable Jewish population before the mass Moroccan Jewish exodus to Israel. M'Hamid El Ghizlane
M'Hamid El Ghizlane, also known as Lamhamid Ghozlane, (in Berber : ⵜⴰⵔⴰⴳⴰⵍⵜ Taragalt, in Arabic: محاميد الغزلان for "plain of gazelles") is a small oasis town in Zagora Province, Drâa-Tafilalet, Morocco, with about 7500 inhabitants. Location M'Hamid lies at an altitude of about 500 meters above sea level and about 24 kilometers from the Algerian border at the edge of the Sahara. M'Hamid can be reached at the end of National Route 9 from Ouarzazate (260 km) via Zagora (approx. 97 km). Mhamid lies on the Wadi Draa, which rarely contains water. History Little is known about the early history of the place because of the lack of written records. The spacious palm oases, however, make an early settlement support (about 3000 BC) likely.
