Refugee Camp
A refugee camp is a temporary settlement built to receive refugees and people in refugee-like situations. Refugee camps usually accommodate displaced people who have fled their home country, but camps are also made for internally displaced people. Usually, refugees seek asylum after they have escaped war in their home countries, but some camps also house environmental and economic migrants. Camps with over a hundred thousand people are common, but as of 2012, the average-sized camp housed around 11,400. They are usually built and run by a government, the United Nations, international organizations (such as the International Committee of the Red Cross), or non-governmental organization. Unofficial refugee camps, such as Idomeni in Greece or the Calais jungle in France, are where refugees are largely left without support of governments or international organizations. ''Salam Neighbor'' is a 2015 documentary film by the production companies Living on One Dollar and 1001 MEDIA. The title means "hello" neighbor. The title has a dual meaning as the Arabic word "salam" also means "peace." The film documents the experiences of American filmmakers Zach Ingrasci and Chris Temple when they lived among 85,000 Syrians in Jordan's Za'atari refugee camp, which lies seven miles from the Syrian border. The filmmakers, who were the first allowed by the UN to register and set-up a tent inside a refugee camp, spent a month in Za'atari to cover what the UN Refugee Agency calls the world's most pressing humanitarian crisis. Kilian Kleinschmidt
Kilian Kleinschmidt (born 1962 in Essen, Germany) is a German entrepreneur and former UNHCR official who served as the director of the Zaatari refugee camp. Personal life Kleinschmidt was born in Essen, Germany as the son of teachers, and grew up in Berlin. After taking his A-Levels, he worked as a roofer. He then joined a cooperative that raised 35 goats in the Pyrenees to make cheese. At 26, during a motorcycle trip in Mali, he met an aid worker and helped out to build a school in Youvarou. He subsequently went on to be associated with UN aid agencies in different capacities. He has five biological children from three relationships and currently resides in Tunis, Tunisia . Career He worked in Sudan during the Second Sudanese Civil War and helped organise a camp for the Lost Boys of Sudan. He was in Mogadishu in 1993 during the Battle of Mogadishu. Mrajeeb Al Fhood Refugee Camp
Mrajeeb Al Fhood refugee camp (also spelled variously as ''Murijep al Fhoud'' and ''Marjeeb Al Fahood'' and also known as Emirati-Jordanian) is a refugee camp for refugees fleeing the Syrian Civil War. It is located in Mrajeeb Al Fhood, a stretch of arid plains some 20 kilometers east of Zarqa, Jordan. It was opened in April 2013 to cope with the overflow from Zaatari refugee camp and is funded by the United Arab Emirates.
