Zaans Museum
Zaans Museum () is a museum in Zaandam, Netherlands, located at the Zaanse Schans. It opened in 1998 to preserve and protect the heritage of the Zaan area. In 2009, the museum was extended with the addition of the Verkade Experience. In 2016, the Zaans Museum opened three locations with living history at the Zaanse Schans: the Cooperage, the Jisper House, and the Weaver's House. Another annex of the Zaans Museum is the Czar Peter House (Netherlands), Tsar Peter House in the centre of Zaandam. The museum houses cultural-historical and regional collections examining the residential and industrial culture. In 2015, the museum acquired a painting from the Zaan period (4 June – 8 October 1871) of the French impressionist painter Claude Monet, entitled 'The Voorzaan and the Westerhem'. Staatsbosbeheer, founded in 1899, is a Dutch government organization for forestry and the management of nature reserves. Staatsbosbeheer currently oversees over 250,000 hectares of land in the Netherlands. Usually this land is open to the public for recreational purposes, but restrictions often apply. Examples are the compulsory use of a leash when bringing a dog, or daytime access only. Zaandijk
Zaandijk () is a town in the municipality of Zaanstad, province of North Holland, Netherlands. Enkhuizen
Enkhuizen () is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland and the region of West-Frisia. History Enkhuizen, like Hoorn and Amsterdam, was one of the harbour-towns of the VOC, from where overseas trade with the East Indies was conducted. It received city rights in 1355. On June 24, 1572 during the Eighty Years' War, in Enkhuizen five Franciscans from Alkmaar were hanged: known as the martyrs of Alkmaar. The Zuiderzee Museum, located on Wierdijk in the historic center of Enkhuizen, is a Dutch museum devoted to preserving the cultural heritage and maritime history from the old Zuiderzee region. With the closing of the Afsluitdijk (Barrier Dam) on May 28, 1932, the Zuiderzee was split in two parts: the waters below the Afsluitdijk are now called the IJsselmeer, while the waters north of it are now considered to be part of the Waddenzee. Jisp is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Wormerland, and lies about 8 km west of Purmerend. History Jisp, in older forms Gispe (1328, 1387), Gyspe (1344), is named after a river with the same name, that had an open connection to the North Sea. Its river name is a composite of 'gis' and 'apa'. The first part means 'gisten', ''to foam''. The second part has the meaning of ''water'', indicating a place where by tidal influences ''foaming water'' occurred. River names containing 'apa' have possibly a prehistoric and Celtic origin, dating back to a period where humans did only live in the area in certain periods of the year to herd their cattle.
