ZEIT-Stiftung
The charitable foundation ''Zeit-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius'' (house style: ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS) is registered in Hamburg. Its aim is to fund projects in research and scholarship, arts and culture, as well as education and training. It was founded in 1971 by Gerd Bucerius and carries the name of the founder, the title of the weekly newspaper ''Die Zeit'', which he co-founded, and the nickname of his second wife, Gertrud Ebel, ''Ebelin''. Early projects of the founder The first scholarships in the 1970s were awarded to young journalists, to enable them to study at Harvard University in Cambridge/US as part of the ''ZEIT Fellowship'' programme. In the 1980s, Gerd Bucerius began to actively support stronger competitiveness in higher education in Germany, and gave substantial funds to the private University Witten/Herdecke. Bucerius Kunst Forum
The Bucerius Kunst Forum is an international exhibition centre in Hamburg, Germany, founded in 2002 through the '' ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius'' foundation. It is named after Gerd Bucerius and his wife, and located directly beside the Hamburg Rathaus. The exhibition centre shows 3 - 4 exhibitions per year, in co-operation with other museums and collections. The exhibition centre participates in the Long Night of Museums. Concept The Bucerius Kunst Forum's mission is to showcase art of high quality in new contexts. The exhibitions focus on one topic, epoch or artist. Gerd Bucerius
Gerd Bucerius (19 May 1906 – 29 September 1995) was a German politician, publisher and journalist, one of the founding members of ''Die Zeit''. He is the namesake of the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg and of the Bucerius Kunst Forum, an art gallery. Life and career Bucerius was born in Westphalia, and studied law in Hamburg. Upon completion of his studies, he was named a judge in Kiel and Flensburg. With the rise to power of the Nazis in 1933, he was unable to continue his work as a judge. His first wife, a Jew, took refuge in the United Kingdom. Bucerius remained a lawyer, defending numerous Jewish clients and others who were targeted under the Nazi regime. With the Allied victory in World War II, Bucerius became a politician and journalist. He was a founding member of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) in 1945. Burkhard Schwenker (born 20 April 1958) is a German business consultant. He was CEO of Roland Berger (then called Roland Berger Strategy Consultants) from 2003 until July 2010, when he was appointed head of the supervisory board of the firm. He was CEO again from May 2013 to July 2014, after his successor/antecessor Martin C. Wittig stepped back for health reasons. Manfred Lahnstein (born 20 December 1937) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Social Democratic Party (SPD). Außenalster () or Outer Alster Lake is the larger one of two artificial lakes, which are formed by the Alster River and are both located within the city limits of Hamburg, Germany. The other „lake“ is the Binnenalster. The Außenalster and its shores are used by the inhabitants of Hamburg for many sport and recreational purposes, such as sailing and rowing.
