Yōko Tsukasa
is a Japanese actress. During her 60 years spanning career, she worked with directors such as Yasujirō Ozu, Mikio Naruse and Akira Kurosawa. For her role in '' The Kii River'' (1966) she was awarded the Blue Ribbon Award, Mainichi Film Award and Kinema Junpo Award for Best Actress. Life Yōko Tsukasa was born Yōko Shōji (庄司 葉子) in Watari-cho, Sakaiminato, Tottori Prefecture. She is the niece of businessman and politician Shōji Ren. Tsukasa attended Tottori Prefectural Sakai High School and graduated from Kyoritsu Women's Junior College in 1954. In the same year, she was scouted after appearing on the cover of ''Katei Yomiuri'' and signed with the Toho Studios. She had her film debut in ''Kimi shinitamo koto nakare'', replacing Ineko Arima due to illness. She was given her stage name by her co-star Ryō Ikebe, and eventually decided to become an actress against her family's initial opposition. was a Japanese film director and screenwriter. Biography After graduating from the Tokyo Imperial University Faculty of Letters in 1936, Nakamura joined the Shochiku film studios, working as an assistant director for Torajirō Saitō and Yasujirō Shimazu. He debuted as director in 1941 with ''Life and Rhythm'', and finally received recognition with his 1951 film '' Home Sweet Home''. His most noted works include the Yasunari Kawabata adaptation '' Twin Sisters of Kyoto'' (1963), ''The Kii River'' (1966) and '' Portrait of Chieko'' (1967). is a 1959 Japanese epic religious fantasy film directed by Hiroshi Inagaki, with special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya. Life Of An Expert Swordsman
is a 1959 samurai film directed by Hiroshi Inagaki and starring Toshiro Mifune. Its story is an adaptation of the 1897 Edmond Rostand play ''Cyrano de Bergerac'', and its basic plot faithfully follows that of the play. The film was released in the English-speaking world with the title ''Samurai Saga''. In the film, Mifune plays a samurai named Heihachiro Komaki, who is analogous to the Cyrano character. Yoko Tsukasa plays Komaki's love interest, Princess Chiyo, who is analogous to Cyrano's love interest, Roxane. At the end of the film, when the mortally wounded Komaki visits Princess Chiyo at her convent to bring her the latest news of the outside world, he mentions the defeat of Kojirō Sasaki in a duel by the famed samurai Musashi Miyamoto.
