Yve Blake
Yve Blake is an Australian screenwriter, songwriter, and playwright. She wrote the musical ''Fangirls''. Career Yve Blake was born in Sydney, Australia, and as a teenager took drama classes at Australian Theatre for Young People. After moving to England to study at Central School of Speech and Drama, Blake dropped out and developed her play ''Sugar Sugar'' as part of the Royal Court Theatre's Young Playwright's program. The play had its Australian premiere in Melbourne in 2014. That year, her next play ''Then'' sold-out at London's Vault Festival, and she returned to the Vault in 2015 with ''Lie Collector'', a musical comedy. ''Then'' was later performed in Australia by the Australian Theatre for Young People. In 2019, Blake premiered her musical ''Fangirls'' at Queensland Theatre. Fangirls (musical)
''Fangirls'' is an Australian stage musical with book, music, and lyrics by Yve Blake. It concerns 14-year-old Edna, a diehard fan of the biggest boy band in the world, True Connection (a parody reference to One Direction), and its lead singer Harry. It was inspired by interviews with hundreds of teenage fangirls. The original production premiered on 7 September 2019 at Queensland Theatre, before transferring to Belvoir St Theatre in Sydney on 12 October 2019. In 2021, ''Fangirls'' returned for a national tour of Australia. ''Fangirls'' received critical acclaim. The musical won the Sydney Theatre Award for Best Production of a Musical, Matilda Award for Best Musical or Cabaret, and the 2020 AWGIE Award for Music Theatre. Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) is the flagship youth theatre company located in the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct, New South Wales, Australia. It was founded in 1963 by Eleanor Witcombe. Matilda Awards
The Matilda Awards recognise excellence in cabaret, dance, theatre, and performance in southeast Queensland. History Established in 1987 by Alison Cotes and Sue Gough, the awards are an annual event held in February or March. The awards are voted by a panel of industry personnel and critics and membership of the panel has changes over time. In 2012 Silver and Gold Matilda statuettes were introduced, awarded for either a single work or a body of work over time. There were five Gold Awards each year but in 2015 only one was awarded as a result of industry advice. In 2013 the Award for the Best Emerging Artist was changed to Bille Brown Award for Best Emerging Artist, named after the late actor.
