Yunchan Lim
Yunchan Lim (; born March 20, 2004) is a South Korean pianist. In 2022, he gained widespread recognition when he became the youngest person ever to win the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition at 18 years old. In 2023, he signed an exclusive contract with Decca Records, Decca. His first album on the label, ''Chopin: Études (Chopin), Études,'' won the Piano Award at the Gramophone Classical Music Awards, 2024 Gramophone Classical Music Awards. Early life and education Lim was born in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, in South Korea. He started piano lessons at age seven and entered the Music Academy of Seoul Arts Center a year later. He began to take the piano more seriously at age nine and studied piano with Kay Kyung Eun Kim. At 13, he entered Yewon School and graduated ''summa cum laude'' in February 2020. Siheung
Siheung (; ) is a Administrative divisions of South Korea, city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Sixteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition
The Sixteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition took place in Fort Worth, Texas, USA from June 2 to 18, 2022 with 30 competitors from 14 countries. It was postponed one year from its regular quadrennial cycle in 2021 due to Covid-19. The edition's theme was "The World is Listening" and celebrated 60 years since its founding in 1962. In light of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, The Cliburn faced pressure to ban Russian participants from the competition but ultimately chose to allow them; however, they also warned competitors that statements in support of the invasion or Russian president Vladimir Putin could result in disqualification. Two Russian competitors (Anna Geniushene and Ilya Shmukler) and the sole Ukrainian competitor (Dmytro Choni) reached the final round. The ISANGYUN Competition is an international music competition, held annually in Tongyeong, South Korea. It commemorates Isang Yun (1917–1995), a Korean composer who was born in Tongyeong and later settled in Germany. The competition was established in 2003 as the Gyeongnam International Music Competition, and renamed to ISANGYUN Competition in 2008. The Thomas & Evon Cooper International Competition (also known simply as the Cooper International Competition) is a piano and violin competition held annually at the Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, and is one of the most prestigious competitions for young musicians in the world.
