Yulhyeon Tunnel
The Yulhyeon Tunnel is a railway tunnel in South Korea, which opened in December 2016, and is currently the world's fourth longest railway tunnel at 50.3 kilometers. The tunnel, which consists of a double-track tube, is part of the 61.1-kilometer Suseo–Pyeongtaek high-speed railway that connects Suseo station in the southeastern part of Seoul with the Gyeongbu high-speed railway. The threading into the older high-speed line is in the south of the city of Pyeongtaek. The tunnel itself takes up about 82% of the total new line. The Yulhyeon Tunnel was built using the New Austrian tunnelling method (NATM) and is designed for a maximum speed of 300 km/h. The average cruising speed is about 240 km/h due to the intermediate stop at Dongtan Station in the southern part of the tunnel. Suseo–Pyeongtaek High-speed Railway
The Suseo–Pyeongtaek high-speed railway (formerly known as Sudogwon HSR Line), also known as Suseo–Pyeongtaek HSR, is a high-speed rail line from Suseo station in southeast Seoul to a junction with the existing Gyeongbu high-speed railway in South Korea. Suseo Station
Suseo is a station on the Seoul Subway Line 3 and Suin–Bundang Line. It was the southeastern terminus of Line 3, until the Line 3 extension to Ogeum station opened on February 18, 2010. Along with Yangjae Station, this station serves as an important transfer point between Line 3 and buses from/to southern cities such as Seongnam, Yongin, and Suwon. Both Line 3 and Bundang Line stations are located in Suseo-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. In December 2016, it became the northern connection point to the Suseo–Pyeongtaek high-speed railway Line running SRT. Gyeongbu High-speed Railway
The Gyeongbu high-speed railway, also known as Gyeongbu HSR, is South Korea's first high-speed rail line from Seoul to Busan. KTX high-speed trains operate three sections of the line: on April 1, 2004, the first between a junction near Geumcheon-gu Office station, Seoul and a junction at Daejeonjochajang station north of Daejeon, and a second between a junction at Okcheon station, southeast of Daejeon, and a junction near Jicheon station, north of Daegu entered service; then on November 1, 2010, the third section, between a junction west of Daegu and Busan became operational. Pyeongtaek () is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Located in the southwestern part of the province, Pyeongtaek was founded as a union of two districts in 940, during the Goryeo dynasty. New Austrian Tunnelling Method
The New Austrian tunneling method (NATM), also known as the sequential excavation method (SEM) or sprayed concrete lining method (SCL), is a method of modern tunnel design and construction employing sophisticated monitoring to optimize various wall reinforcement techniques based on the type of rock encountered as tunneling progresses.
