Yuji Sakai
The Japanese light novel, manga, and anime series ''Shakugan no Shana'' features a cast of characters created by Yashichiro Takahashi and Noizi Ito. Main characters Yuji Sakai : : is a high school student who, as Kentaro reveals following Chigusa's pregnancy, had an older twin brother who died at birth; in honor of him, his parents named him Yuji, which means "second (child) who shall live long". One day, he discovers that he is a Torch who has already died and has little time left before he disappears. However, he is a Mystes who contains the , a Treasure Tool which restores his Power of Existence each midnight. Because of this, he can live a regular lifespan as long as his Power of Existence does not run out before midnight, but it is unknown whether he will age normally or be immortal. ASCII Media Works published 27 novels from November 2002 to November 2023 under their Dengeki Bunko imprint. The story focuses on Yuji Sakai, a high school boy who becomes involved in an age-old conflict between forces of balance and imbalance in existence; in the process, he befriends a fighter for the balancing force and names her "Shana". The series also incorporates fantasy and slice of life elements. Two manga adaptations were published by ASCII Media Works in ''Dengeki Daioh'' and ''Dengeki Maoh''. Joel McDonald is an American voice actor, voice director, and scriptwriter who worked on English versions of anime series at Funimation. Biography Since McDonald was 7, he had a love for acting. He acted in plays at school and church, participating in community theater, secondary school theater and in speech competitions. Later, he acquired a BFA in Acting and Directing from Sam Houston State College. From that point onwards, McDonald took up acting professionally, taking parts in a national kids' theater tour, landing different roles in a couple dozen stage shows.
