Youth Arena (Portuguese: ''Arena da Juventude'') is an indoor arena in Deodoro, Rio de Janeiro, Deodoro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The venue hosted the Basketball at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Basketball and Fencing events for the Modern pentathlon at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Modern Pentathlon at the 2016 Summer Olympics. The arena was also to host the Wheelchair fencing at the Summer Paralympics, wheelchair fencing events for the 2016 Summer Paralympics, but they were moved to Carioca Arena 3 due to budget cuts. Construction The building was designed by the Brazilian architecture office Vigliecca & Associados. The project uses a sports hangar as its concept, being coherently elegant with the Olympic scale and presenting a great span of 66.5 meters, able to house several sport modalities. Carioca Arena 3 (Portuguese: ''Arena Carioca 3''), now named the Isabel Salgado Olympic Educational Gymnasium, is a sports training school and indoor stadium in Barra da Tijuca in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The 2016 Summer Olympics, officially known as the "Games of the XXXI Olympiad", was an international multi-sport event held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5 to August 21, 2016. Events took place at eighteen existing venues (eight of which required some redevelopment), nine new venues constructed for the Summer Games, and seven temporary venues which were removed following the conclusion of the games. Fencing is a combat sport that features sword fighting.
