Youcef Abdi ( Kabyle: Yusef Ɛabdi) (born 7 December 1977) is an Australian athlete who specialized in the 3000 m steeplechase. He changed his allegiance from Algeria Algeria, officially the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa. Since his retirement from athletics he has found a new calling and currently plays soccer in the over 35's division for Waverly Old Boys alongside Socceroos ex-captain Craig Foster and ex-AFL player Adam Goodes. Early life Youcef Abdi was born in Azazga, Algeria, and moved to Australia as a teenager. He obtained Australian citizenship in 2000. Kabyle () or Kabylian (; native name: ''Taqbaylit'' ) is a Berber languages, Berber language spoken by the Kabyle people in the north and northeast of Algeria. Athletics At The 2008 Summer Olympics
Athletics at the 2008 Summer Olympics were held during the last ten days of the games, from August 15 to August 24, 2008, at the Beijing National Stadium. The Olympic sport of athletics is split into four distinct sets of events: track and field events, road running events, and racewalking events. Both men and women had very similar schedules of events. Men competed in 24 events and women in 23, as their schedule lacked the 50 km race walk. In addition, both the men's 110 m hurdles and decathlon are reflected in the women's schedule by the 100 m hurdles and heptathlon, respectively. The Olympic record was broken in 17 returning events. The athletics competitions at the 2012 Olympic Games in London were held during the last 10 days of the Games, on 3–12 August. Track and field events took place at the Olympic Stadium in east London. The road events, however, started and finished on The Mall in central London. Over 2,000 athletes from 201 nations competed in 47 events in total, with both men and women having a very similar schedule of events. The Athletics (sport), athletics competition at the 2010 Commonwealth Games was held in New Delhi, India between 6 and 14 October.
