''You Hear It First'' was an on-air MTV News program from 2000 to 2007 that gave the MTV audience a first look at hot emerging artists. The show began as a segment on MTV News 1515 and then spun off into its own half-hour tv series airing on MTV2. MTV News was the news production division of MTV. The service was available in the US with localized versions on MTV's global network and an online news team. In 2016, MTV refreshed the MTV News brand to compete with the likes of BuzzFeed and ''Vice'', but by mid-2017 MTV News was significantly downsized due to cutbacks.
