''You're in the Army Now'' is a 1941 comedy film directed by Lewis Seiler and starring Jimmy Durante, Phil Silvers, Jane Wyman, and Regis Toomey. It featured the longest kiss in film (lasting three minutes and five seconds), between Toomey and Wyman, until 1988. The film's climactic gag, a cabin dangling over a cliff edge, appears to have been liberally borrowed from Charlie Chaplin's feature film ''The Gold Rush''. The film's copyright was renewed in 1969. Joe Sawyer
Joe Sawyer (born Joseph Sauers, August 29, 1906 – April 21, 1982) was a Canadian film actor. He appeared in more than 200 films between 1927 and 1962, and was sometimes billed under his birth name. Early life Sawyer was born August 29, 1906 as ''Joseph Sauers'' in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. His parents were German. In his 20s he went to Los Angeles to pursue a career in films. Career Sawyer gained acting experience in the Pasadena Playhouse. Productions in which he performed there included '' Quinneys'', ''The Wolves'', and ''White Wings''. The film was directed by Henry Hathaway and stars Gary Cooper as a new officer wanting duty at sea but who is instead assigned to an experimental project without much hope of success. It was released by 20th Century Fox and its initial release was titled ''U.S.S. Teakettle''. When the film failed to gain an audience, it was re-titled to the present title. Etta McDaniel
Etta McDaniel (December 1, 1890January 13, 1946) was an American actress who appeared in over 60 films between 1933 and 1946. She was the sister of actor Sam McDaniel and actress and Academy Award winner Hattie McDaniel. Early life McDaniel was born in Wichita, Kansas. She began her entertainment career as a member of minstrel shows with several others of her family. Etta married John Alfred Goff, 2 Dec 1908, in Denver, Colorado. Her son was Edgar Henry Goff. Career In 1914, at this point, Etta Goff, and her sister Hattie McDaniel launched an all-female minstrel show, called the McDaniel Sisters Company.
