Yoshitoshi Recordings
Yoshitoshi Recordings is a dance music record label which is owned and operated by (Washington, D.C.) house producer Sharam. It was founded in 1994. While pigeonholed as a progressive label, its releases in fact cover a broad spectrum of modern dance music, reflecting the eclectic tastes of its owners. The first release on the label was Submarine's self-titled single. Deep Dish developed offshoot dance labels ''Deep Dish,'' ''Shinichi'' and ''Yo'' as well, each catering to a slightly different genre of house music. In addition, they owned and operated a retail store (also named ''Yoshitoshi'') in the Georgetown area of D.C. The store sold an extensive selection of dance records of all genres including drum n bass and breakbeat, as well as clothing, mixtapes and record bags. The store closed in 2003, although their labels continue to release music, mostly in digital format with occasional CDs and vinyl projects. Dance Music
Dance music is music composed specifically to facilitate or accompany dancing. It can be either a whole piece or part of a larger musical arrangement. Deep Dish (band)
Deep Dish are an American electronic music duo, consisting of Iranian-American artists Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia and Sharam, Sharam Tayebi. Biography Based in Washington, D.C., they are well known for providing house or dance remixes of tracks of famous artists such as Madonna (entertainer), Madonna, Janet Jackson, Cher, Stevie Nicks and Gabrielle (singer), Gabrielle, and for its live DJ sets. Their collaborations and remixing abilities first came to attention with their seminal 1995 remix of De'Lacy's "Hideaway (De'Lacy song), Hideaway". Deep Dish's album ''Junk Science (album), Junk Science'' was released in 1998. The duo won a Best Remixed Recording Grammy for their remix of Dido (singer), Dido's "Thank You (Dido song), Thank You". House Music
House is a genre of electronic dance music characterized by a repetitive Four on the floor (music), four-on-the-floor beat and a typical tempo of 115–130 beats per minute. It was created by DJs and music producers from Chicago's underground Clubbing (subculture), club culture and evolved slowly in the early/mid 1980s as DJs began altering disco songs to give them a more mechanical beat. Richard Morel is an American singer-songwriter, DJ, remixer and record producer from the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts. He has worked extensively with Washington D.C.–based duo Deep Dish, co-writing, co-producing, performing and singing on many of their tracks, most notably on their albums ''Junk Science'' and '' George Is On''. Richard Morel's songs are represented by Downtown Music Publishing.
