Yong Pung How
Yong Pung How (11 April 1926 – 9 January 2020) was a Singaporean judge, lawyer, and banker who served as the second Chief Justice of Singapore from 1990 to 2006 after being appointed by President Wee Kim Wee. During his tenure, he implemented a series of administrative and procedural reforms aimed at improving the efficiency of the judiciary, including measures to reduce case backlogs and the adoption of information technology in court processes. These initiatives contributed to the modernisation of Singapore's legal system. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Yong held senior positions in both the legal and financial sectors. Yong Pung How School Of Law
The SMU Yong Pung How School of Law, previously SMU School of Law, is one of the six schools within the Singapore Management University. It was set up as Singapore's second law school in 2007, 50 years after the NUS Faculty of Law and 10 years before SUSS School of Law. The school offers a four-year undergraduate single Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree programme and a double degree programme combining the law degree programme with one of SMU's existing non-law programmes. The school also offers a graduate Juris Doctor (JD) programme as well as a Master of Laws (LLM) programme. The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, commonly known as the Inner Temple, is one of the four Inns of Court and is a professional association for barristers and judges. An exhibition is a type of historical financial scholarship or bursary awarded in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Purpose An exhibition is historically a small financial award or grant, of lower status than a "scholarship", given to an individual student based normally on grounds of merit or demonstrable necessity. They have been used at universities of Dublin, Oxford, Cambridge and Sheffield, as well as some public schools and other UK educational establishments. Kwa Geok Choo
Kwa Geok Choo (; 21 December 1920 – 2 October 2010) was a Singaporean lawyer. She was the wife of Lee Kuan Yew, the founding Prime Minister of Singapore and the mother of Lee Hsien Loong, Lee Hsien Yang, and Lee Wei Ling. She was the co-founder and partner of law firm Lee & Lee and took the role as the spouse of the Prime Minister of Singapore between 1959 and 1990. Early life and education Kwa was the daughter of Kwa Siew Tee, former general manager of Oversea-Chinese Bank and Singapore Municipal Commissioner who was a Tong'anese on his paternal side who also had a Teochew mother, and Wee Yew Neo, Geok Choo's Teochew mother was from Shantou. Victoria Institution
The Victoria Institution is the oldest secondary school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is a memorial school, so-called because it was partly funded by public subscription intended for the erection of a permanent memorial to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887. Shook Lin & Bok is a law firm with offices in Singapore and Malaysia. History Shook Lin & Bok began in 1918 as Messrs Yong Shook Lin, a Kuala Lumpur law firm. That year, Yong Shook Lin was admitted as the first Chinese to the Malayan bar after graduating from Cambridge University. In 1938, the firm recruited another partner, Tan Teow Bok, and was renamed Messrs Shook Lin & Bok. Yong's son, Pung How, would later join the firm in 1952 after graduating with a double-first degree in law from his father's alma mater, initially practicing mostly criminal law.
