Yolani Batres
Edna Yolani Batres (born 14 January 1967) is a Honduran politician who was the Secretary of State at the Bureau of Health in the government of President Juan Orlando Hernández from January 2014 until December 2016. Career Early career roles have included consultant at the Inter-American Development Bank, working on technical capacity building to support the expansion and sustainability of health services delivery within the Unit of Decentralised Management at the Secretariat of Health. Before her appointment as Secretary of State, Batres served as the Deputy Secretary of Health for Service Networks; Head of the Unit for Coverage Expansion for the Health Region of Gracias, Lempira; and Chief of the Emergency Services at the Departmental Hospital Juan Manuel Gálvez. During her time as Secretary of State, she oversaw the government's response to the 2015–16 Zika virus epidemic. Honduras
Honduras, officially the Republic of Honduras, is a country in Central America. Juan Orlando Hernández Alvarado (; born 28 October 1968), also known by his initials JOH, is a Honduran lawyer, former politician and convicted drug trafficker who was 38th president of Honduras from 27 January 2014 to 27 January 2022 for two consecutive terms. A member of the National Party of Honduras, National Party, Hernández previously served as the president of the National Congress of Honduras between January 2010 and June 2013, when he was given permission by the Congress to absent himself from all responsibilities in the Congress to dedicate himself to his presidential campaign. 2015–16 Zika Virus Epidemic
An epidemic of Zika fever, caused by Zika virus, began in Brazil and affected other countries in the Americas from April 2015 to November 2016. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the end of the epidemic in November 2016, but noted that the virus still represents "a highly significant and long term problem". It is estimated that 1.5 million people were infected by Zika virus in Brazil, with over 3,500 cases of infant microcephaly reported between October 2015 and January 2016.
