Yevpatoria Raion
The Yevpatoria Raion, also transliterated as Yevpatoriiskyi Raion() is a prospective raion (district) of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in Ukraine. It was created on September 7, 2023, from the territories of Saky Raion and Chornomorske Raion, along with the Yevpatoria and Saky municipalities. The administrative center is the city of Yevpatoria. Due to the ongoing Russian occupation of Crimea, the Ukrainian government has only ''de jure'' authority over the peninsula, and the raion has not yet been implemented in practice. A previous Yevpatoria Raion existed from 1918 until 1963, when it was abolished, with part becoming the Yevpatoria Municipality and the rest going into Saky Raion. Saky Raion
Saky Raion (, , ) is one of the 25 regions of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, a territory recognized by a majority of countries as part of Ukraine and incorporated by Russia as the Republic of Crimea. Its administrative center is the city of Saky, which is not a part of the district. Population: The district includes the urban-type settlement of Novofedorivka. 2020 Ukrainian administrative reform In July 2020, Ukraine conducted an administrative reform throughout its de jure territory. This included Crimea, which has been occupied by Russia since 2014. Crimea was reorganized from 14 raions and 11 municipalities into 10 raions, with municipalities abolished altogether. The recorded history of the Crimean Peninsula, historically known as ''Tauris'', ''Taurica'' (), and the ''Tauric Chersonese'' (, "Tauric Peninsula"), begins around the 5th century BCE when several Greeks in pre-Roman Crimea, Greek colonies were established along its coast, the most important of which was Chersonesos near modern-day Sevastopol, with Scythians and Tauri in the hinterland to the north. A raion (also spelt rayon) is a type of administrative unit of several post-Soviet states. The term is used for both a type of subnational entity and a division of a city. The word is from the French (meaning 'honeycomb, department'), and is commonly translated as 'district' in English. A raion is a standardized administrative entity across most of the former Soviet Union and is usually a subdivision two steps below the national level, such as a subdivision of an oblast. However, in smaller USSR republics, it could be the primary level of administrative division. The Yevpatoria City Municipality (, translit. Chornomorske Raion (, , ) is a raion (district) within boundaries of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, which is the southernmost subdivision of Ukraine, but since 2014 occupied and administered by the Russian Federation.
