YesCymru
YesCymru is a non party-political campaign for an independent Wales. The organisation was formed in the Summer of 2014 and officially launched on 20 February 2016 in Cardiff. In 2022 it became a private company limited by guarantee without share capital. History Origins YesCymru was set up in the Summer of 2014 by Iestyn ap Rhobert, Siôn Jobbins and Hedd Gwynfor, who were inspired by campaigners in Scotland in the lead-up to the 2014 Scottish independence referendum. They saw how local pro-independence groups were started across Scotland and were convinced that was the best way forward for Welsh independence as well. Welsh Independence
Welsh independence ( cy, Annibyniaeth i Gymru) is the political movement advocating for Wales to become a sovereign state, independent from the United Kingdom. Conquest of Wales by Edward I, Wales was conquered during the 13th century by Edward I of England following the killing of Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, Llywelyn the Last (Prince of Wales). Wales ( cy, Cymru ) is a Countries of the United Kingdom, country that is part of the United Kingdom. Dafydd Iwan
Dafydd Iwan Jones (born 24 August 1943) is a Welsh singer and nationalist politician who rose to fame writing and performing folk music in the Welsh language. From 2003 to 2010, Iwan was the president of Plaid Cymru, a political party which advocates for Welsh independence from the UK. Early life Dafydd Iwan Jones was born in Brynamman, Carmarthenshire. One of four boys, his siblings include the actor Huw Ceredig and the politician Alun Ffred Jones. His paternal grandfather, Fred Jones, was a member of the Bardic family Teulu'r Cilie, and a founding member of Plaid Cymru. He spent most of his youth in Bala in Gwynedd before attending the University of Wales, Cardiff, where he studied architecture. All Under One Banner Cymru
All Under One Banner Cymru (AUOB Cymru; ) is a Welsh grassroots movement which organises Welsh independence marches. Activity Founding The organisation was set up as a similar organisation and inspired by All Under One Banner in Scotland. Their first march was held in Cardiff on 11 May 2019, attracting thousands of participants. Marches and parades Initial marches and parades were held in Cardiff, Caernarfon and Merthyr Tydfil in May 2019. Subsequent marches scheduled for 2020 had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. AUOB announced they would be organising two independence marches in 2022. The first was held in Wrexham on 2 July. Thousands attended a march in Cardiff on 1 October. ''The National Wales'' was a Welsh daily news website owned by Newsquest and former compact newspaper. Gavin Thompson is the editor, while three journalists – audience and content editor Michael Sweet and reporter Gareth Axenderrie – have been taken on to work for the title; Rachel Nurse, another reporter, died in October 2021. Unlike the Scottish outlet of the same name, ''The National'' takes no political stance and claims to simply be "pro-Wales".
