Yeronga Football Club
The Yeronga South Brisbane Football Club, often known simply as Yeronga and nicknamed the Devils, is an Australian rules football club that plays in Division 2 of the Queensland Football Association (QFA) men's leagues and in the AFL Queensland Women's League (QAFLW). The club has previously competed in the Queensland Australian National Football League (QANFL). History Yeronga Football Club was formed in 1928 and originally wore blue jumpers with a white vee. The club made two QANFL grand finals in the 1930s, losing to Windsor on both occasions. Name change - Yeronga South Brisbane (1950) In 1950, the club's board elected to change its name to South Brisbane to align itself with the South Brisbane District Cricket Club both of which shared the same field, Fehlberg Park, and president, Mr Will Sanders. The University of Queensland Australian Football Club (UQAFC) is an amateur Australian rules football club playing in thQFADivision 1, Division 4 anQAFLWLeague competitions, overseen by AFL Queensland. UQAFC home games are played at the University of Queensland's Playing Field 2, on the corner of Sir William MacGregor Drive and Thynne Road, St Lucia, Brisbane. Founded in 1956, the club collected the ''Red Lions'' moniker in reference to a pub in the Northern New South Wales town of Glencoe. After travelling to Armidale to compete against the University of New England for the Clem Jones Shield UQ would frequent the Red Lion Tavern on their return journey, giving birth to the Red Lion legend. Emily Bates
Emily Bates (born 18 October 1995) is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Hawthorn Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW). She previously played for the Brisbane Lions from 2017 to season 7. Bates was selected by the Western Bulldogs in the inaugural national women's draft in 2013, and represented them in the first three years of the exhibition games staged prior to the creation of the league. She represented Brisbane in 2016, the last year that the games were held, and was drafted by the club with the second selection in the 2016 AFL Women's draft prior to the inaugural AFL Women's season. Kate McCarthy (born 24 October 1992) is a former Australian rules footballer, media personality and sports commentator who played for the Brisbane Lions, St Kilda Football Club, and Hawthorn Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW). Early and personal life McCarthy grew up in Brisbane where she initially pursued a career in cricket and represented Queensland in the process. She later switched to play Australian rules football for Yeronga South Brisbane in the QWAFL before signing for the Brisbane Lions. Samantha Virgo (born 20 February 1987) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Brisbane and Gold Coast in the AFL Women's. She was selected in the All-Australian team in 2017, and co-captained Gold Coast from 2020 to 2021. Early life Virgo was born in 1987 in Blackwood, South Australia. Jordan Zanchetta (born 18 March 1995) is an Australian rules footballer who played for the Brisbane Lions and Essendon in the AFL Women's. Junior football Zanchetta began playing junior football with the Jindalee Jaguars, winning the best and fairest award in the 2010 Under 15 Girls' competition while also playing at Under 18 level for the Western Thunder. Kate Lutkins (born 31 May 1988) is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Brisbane Lions in the AFL Women's. She was the "best player on the ground" at the 2021 AFL Women's Grand Final. Early life Lutkins was born in 1988 in Brisbane, Queensland. Her mother is Debbie Bowe. Dylan Martin Alcott, (born 4 December 1990) is an Australian former wheelchair tennis player, former wheelchair basketball player, radio host, actor, foundation founder, business owner and motivational speaker.
