Yer Bird Records
Yer Bird Records is a Calgary, Alberta-based independent record label. Founded by Morgan Galen King in 2004 in Charlottesville, Virginia before relocating to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. King partnered with photographer Benjamin Gallman and Yer Bird Records moved from Charlottesville to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and finally settled in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in early 2010. The new label owners are Sandy & Judy Smith and Sandy also operates the music blog Slowcoustic. Yer Bird's first released record was Sounds Like Fall's ''The Wolf is at the Door'', which was released on July 7, 2005. Sounds Like Fall is the performing name of Iowan singer-songwriter Joe Young (musician), Joe Young who had extensively toured the Midwest with Alternative country band Moonshine Radio. Matthew Ryan (musician)
Matthew Ryan (born November 7, 1971) is an American musician, singer and songwriter, born in Chester, Pennsylvania and inspired by such artists as U2, The Replacements, and Leonard Cohen. He logged several years in a series of bands before signing with A&M Records as a solo artist in 1996. '' No Depression'' magazine has described him as "Equal parts Springsteen, Westerberg and Ryan Adams, Ryan is a powerhouse of a storyteller for almost two decades. A forefather of the Alt-country scene, Ryan has yet to receive as much commercial success as some of his contemporaries." Bosque Brown
Bosque Brown is an American indie band from the music town of Denton, Texas. While attending college there, singer-songwriter Mara Lee Miller chose "Bosque Brown" for her music, named after a river that runs through Stephenville, Texas, her childhood home. She recorded a handful of demos and had her husband hand them over to songwriter Damien Jurado after a show. He contacted her again and helped her to secure a recording opportunity in Seattle, Washington. The resulting EP is 2005's ''Bosque Brown Plays Mara Lee Miller'', a recording that includes various contributions by Jurado, producer Eric Fisher, with mastering duties by Pedro the Lion's David Bazan and T.W. Walsh. The first effort from Miller and company has been lauded for its vulnerability and darkness. The band's follow up album, ''Baby'', was released in March 2009. ''Z'' is the fourth studio album by psychedelic rock band My Morning Jacket. This collection features a much spacier and more polished sound than previous releases, making heavy use of synthesizers throughout and incorporating reggae and dub influences. The heavy reverb that was a defining characteristic of the band's prior recordings is largely absent. The songs on the album are more focused and shorter compared to the band's previous albums. My Morning Jacket is an American Rock music, rock band formed in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1998. The band consists of vocalist/guitarist Jim James, bassist Tom Blankenship, drummer Patrick Hallahan, guitarist Carl Broemel, and keyboardist Bo Koster. Cold Specks is the stage name of Somali Canadian singer-songwriter Ladan Hussein, who was previously known as Al Spx. Her music has been described as doom-soul. The name Cold Specks is taken from a line in James Joyce's ''Ulysses'' ("Born all in the dark wormy earth, cold specks of fire, evil lights shining in the darkness.").
