Yela Loffredo
Yela Loffredo Rodríguez, later known as Yela de Klein (July 22, 1924 – May 16, 2020) was an Ecuadorian sculptor who directed Guayaquil's museum and led the culture department at Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral. Life Loffredo was born in Guayaquil in 1924. She was one of the thirteen children of Julia Rodríguez and Salvatore Loffredo. Her father was an Italian emigrant. She would become important to the Las Peñas area and she chose to live her from a short list of two offered by her new husband. In 1942 her mother who was then the head of the family died in the 1942 Ecuador earthquake. She co-founded the Las Peñas Cultural Association in the Guayaquil neighborhood in 1966 after seeing Greenwich village. Several people were involved including Alfredo Palacio. Guayaquil Municipal Museum
Guayaquil Municipal Museum () is a museum in Guayaquil, Ecuador. It contains artifacts, objects and historical items relating to the history of Guayaquil. It is considered the most important of the city and one of the best in the country. It is located in the center of the city of Guayaquil, in the same building as the Municipal Library. Admission is free, but passports are required. History The museum has its origins in 1863 when an industrial museum was started by the politician and writer Pedro Carbo Noboa, making it the oldest in Ecuador, but it was not until 1908 that the museum was officially founded. The first director was Camilo Destruge Illingworth. The museum has gone through a variety of moves and renovations, acquiring its own building for the first time in 1916. Escuela Superior Politécnica Del Litoral
The Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) is a public university located in Guayaquil, Guayas Province in Ecuador. ESPOL has five faculties or schools, fifteen research centers, and several associated centers providing twenty-six undergraduate and ten master's degrees. 1942 Ecuador Earthquake
The 1942 Ecuador earthquake or the Guayaquil earthquake occurred on 13 May at 21:13 ECT with a moment magnitude () of 7.8–7.9. The earthquake had an epicenter near the coast of Manabí Province, Ecuador. It killed more than 300 people and the total cost of damage was about million. At Guayaquil, from the epicenter, many reinforced concrete structures in the city were destroyed and high-rise buildings collapsed. At least 100 fatalities were recorded in the city. The earthquake was caused by movement on a section of the Ecuador–Colombia subduction zone, a seismically active area where the Nazca plate subducts beneath the overriding South American plate. This subduction zone previously ruptured during a much larger earthquake in 1906, and the 1942 event represented a partial re-rupture. Luis Alfredo Palacio González (22 January 1939 – 22 May 2025) was an Ecuadorian cardiologist and politician who was the 44th president of Ecuador from 2005 to 2007. He had been the 44th vice president under President Lucio Gutiérrez, until he was appointed to the presidency when the Ecuadorian Congress removed Gutiérrez from power following a week of growing unrest with his government. He previously served as Minister of Health between 1994 and 1996.
