Yavapai County ( ) is a county near the center of the U.S. state of Arizona. As of the 2020 census, its population was 236,209, making it the fourth-most populous county in Arizona. The county seat is Prescott. Yavapai County comprises the Prescott Valley-Prescott, AZ Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the northern portions of Peoria and Wickenburg, the balance of which are in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. History Yavapai County was one of the four original Arizona counties created by the 1st Arizona Territorial Legislature. The county territory was defined as being east of longitude 113° 20' and north of the Gila River. Prescott Valley is a town located in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States, approximately east of Prescott, Arizona, Prescott. According to the 2020 United States census, Prescott Valley has a population of 46,785 residents. Interstate 17 (I-17) is a north–south Interstate Highway located entirely within the US state of Arizona. I-17's southern terminus lies in Phoenix, at I-10/US 60 and its northern terminus is in Flagstaff, at I-40. Most of I-17 is known as the Arizona Veterans Highway. In the Phoenix metropolitan area, it is mostly known as the Black Canyon Freeway, however, the southern are part of the Maricopa Freeway. The portion of the highway south of Cordes Lakes was built along the alignment of State Route 69 (SR 69), while the northern part was built along old SR 79's alignment. Gila County ( ) is a county in the central part of the U.S. state of Arizona. As of the 2020 census, the population was 53,272. The county seat is Globe. Gila County comprises the Payson, Arizona micropolitan statistical area which is included in the greater Phoenix–Mesa, AZ combined statistical area. Gila County contains parts of Fort Apache Indian Reservation and San Carlos Indian Reservation. History The county was formed from parts of Maricopa and Pinal counties on February 8, 1881. Mount Union (Arizona)
Mount Union is a mountain located in the Prescott National Forest in central Yavapai County, Arizona. The mountain's summit is the highest point of the Bradshaw Mountains, and of Yavapai County. Mount Union is flanked to the northeast by Mount Davis. A lookout tower built by the CCC is on top of Mount Union, and exceeds 8,000 foot elevation. A service road for the communication towers allows easy access to the summit of Mount Union. However, the road goes through private property and is closed to motorized vehicles. Coconino Plateau
The Coconino Plateau is found south of the Grand Canyon and north-northwest of Flagstaff, in northern Arizona of the Southwestern United States. Geography The Coconino Plateau lies south of Grand Canyon Village and the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in Coconino County, and primarily north of Interstate 40 and east of Arizona State Route 64. Much of it is protected within the Kaibab National Forest. Vegetation The native plant vegetation in the forest areas varies by elevation and exposure.
