''Yav'' () is the seventh full-length album by the Russian pagan metal band Arkona. It was released on 25 April 2014 through Napalm Records. The album references the material world Yav. Violin players Olli Vänskä of Turisas and Alexey of Sviatogor appear as guest musicians. Track listing Reception The ''Sonic Seducer'' magazine wrote that ''Yav'' was more mature and serious than Arkona's previous releases, leaving the clichés of the genre behind. Arkona (band)
Arkona () is a Russian folk metal band. Their lyrics are heavily influenced by Folklore of Russia, Russian folklore and Slavic mythology, and their music incorporates several traditional Russian musical instruments. The name of the band "Arkona" refers to the last Pre-Christianized Slavic Jaromarsburg, city-castle. History The band was founded in February 2002 by two members of Dolgoprudny Slavic Neopaganism Society: Masha "Scream" Arkhipova and Alexander "Warlock" Korolyov, originally as Giperboreya (Гиперборея – Hyperborea). At the end of 2002 the group (featuring also Evgeny Knyazev on guitar, Evgeny Borzov on bass and Olga Loginova on keyboards, and now as Arkona) entered the Moscow CDM Studios. Pagan Metal
Pagan metal is a genre of heavy metal music which fuses extreme metal with " the pre-Christian traditions of a specific culture or region" through thematic concept, rustic melodies, unusual instruments or archaic languages, Wiederhorn 2009, p. 62. usually referring to folk metal or black metal. The Norwegian band In the Woods... was one of the first bands commonly viewed as pagan metal. '' Metal Hammer'' author Marc Halupczok wrote that Primordial's song "To Enter Pagan" from the band's demo " Dark Romanticism" contributed to defining the genre. ''Sonic Seducer'' is a German music magazine that covers gothic rock, new wave, EBM and other kinds of electronic music and culture. Jav, Prav And Nav
Prav (Правь), Yav (Явь) and Nav (Навь) are the three dimensions or qualities of the cosmos as described in the first chapter of the Book of Light and in the ''Book of Veles'' (probably a fabrication from the 19-20 century) of Slavic Native Faith (Rodnovery). Older sources mention only Nav and Yav concepts of ancient slavic cosmology, similar to Yin and Yang in Taoism, and Prav was not part of the concept. Turisas
Turisas is a Finnish metal band from Hämeenlinna. They were founded in 1997 by Mathias Nygård and Jussi Wickström, and named after an ancient Finnish god of war. Turisas plays folk metal, incorporating elements of power metal and symphonic metal along with frequent harsh vocals. They are known to play most of their solos on electric violin, as opposed to traditional guitar solos. History ''Battle Metal'' (2004–2007) Since 2003, Turisas have been signed to Century Media Records, which released their debut album '' Battle Metal'' in 2004. Then the band went on a European tour with various guest musicians on instruments such as violins and accordions.
