Yass Junction Railway Station
Yass Junction railway station is a heritage-listed railway station on the Main Southern railway line, Main Southern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the town of Yass, New South Wales, Yass. The station is not in the town itself but is located approximately four kilometres away near the Hume Highway. The station was listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. Yass, New South Wales
Yass () is a town on the periphery of the Southern Tablelands and South West Slopes of New South Wales, Australia. The name appears to have been derived from an Australian Aboriginal, Aboriginal word, "Yarrh" (or "Yharr"), said to mean 'running water'. Yass is located 280 km south-west of Sydney, on the Hume Highway, and is 59 km from Canberra. It lies at an elevation of 505 metres. The Yass River, which is a tributary of the Murrumbidgee River, flows through the town. Yass has a historic High Street, high street, with well-preserved 19th-century verandah post pubs (mostly converted to other uses). Queanbeyan Railway Station
Queanbeyan railway station is a heritage-listed railway station located on the Bombala railway line, Bombala line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the town of Queanbeyan. History Queanbeyan station opened on 8 September 1887 when the Bombala railway line, Bombala line was extended from Bungendore railway station, Bungendore. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. The construction contract for the Bungendore to Michelago section was awarded to Alex Johnston on 27 May 1884. The station location chosen was in the Oaks Paddock, two kilometres from the centre of town, which was chosen to avoid the need to demolish the hospital and cemetery. The Xplorer is a class of diesel multiple unit (DMU) trains built by ABB. Southern Cross railway station (until 2005 known as Spencer Street station) is a major railway station in Docklands, Victoria, Docklands, Melbourne. New South Wales XPT
The New South Wales XPT (short for eXpress Passenger Train) is a class of diesel locomotive, diesel-powered passenger trains built by Commonwealth Engineering, Comeng and ABB. Based on the British Rail-designed InterCity 125, High Speed Train, each XPT set comprises two XP power cars in a push–pull train, push-pull configuration and, between them, from four to seven passenger carriages. The XPT was procured following a competitive invitation to tender, tendering process, with an initial contract for 30 trainsets, comprising 10 power cars and 20 carriages, in March 1980. The design of the InterCity 125 was substantially modified. Testing commenced in August 1981 and the first set entered service under the State Rail Authority during January 1982. Australian Railway Historical Society
The Australian Railway Historical Society (ARHS) has been a railway organisation concerned with history and preservation of railway heritage at a national level. It has had divisions in every state and the Australian Capital Territory, although the ACT division was wound up in 2016, along with the Victorian division in 2020. Since 1967, when each division incorporated, the state divisions operated as separate entities. Each still trades under the ARHS brand, except in Western Australia, where the division is called Rail Heritage WA. Individual membership exceeds 2,500. Background The ARHS was founded in Sydney in 1933 as The Railway Circle, becoming the Australasian Railway and Locomotive Historical Society shortly afterwards.
