Yashar (song)
"Yashar" is a song by English industrial band Cabaret Voltaire. It first appeared on their 1982 album ''2x45''; two remixes by John Robie were released on a single the following year. A version of the song also appears on the live album ''Hai! (Live in Japan)''. The single was released in May 1983 on Factory Benelux (FBN 25) and Factory Records UK (FAC 82). It reached No. 6 on the UK Indie Chart. The track features a sample of dialogue ("The 70 billion people of Earth — where are they hiding?") from ''The Outer Limits'' episode " Demon with a Glass Hand". As well as the 5:00 and 7:20 versions on the single, a 6:36 version was released on the 1983 compilation LP ''Factory Benelux Greatest Hits''. ''2x45'' is the fifth studio album by English band Cabaret Voltaire. It was released in May 1982 through Rough Trade. This was the last studio album by the band to feature founding member Chris Watson, who had departed during its recording. Background The title comes from the album's original format of two 45 RPM 12" discs. Sides A and B were recorded at Western Works, Sheffield in October 1981, while Sides C and D were recorded at Pluto Studios, Manchester in February 1982, after Watson's departure to join ITV Tyne Tees. The track " Yashar" was later remixed as a dance record by John Robie and released as a single. Critical reception ''Trouser Press'' found ''2x45'' to be a "temporary letdown" following their previous release, ''Red Mecca'', but went on to say: "Much has been said and written about an industrial, modern-age music; Cabaret Voltaire is the only group doing it... Factory Records was a Manchester-based British independent record label founded in 1978 by Tony Wilson and Alan Erasmus. The label featured several important acts on its roster, including Joy Division, New Order (band), New Order, A Certain Ratio, the Durutti Column, Happy Mondays, Northside (band), Northside, and (briefly) Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and James (band), James. Factory also ran The Haçienda nightclub, in partnership with New Order. Cabaret Voltaire are an English music group formed in Sheffield in 1973 and initially composed of Stephen Mallinder, Richard H. Kirk, and Chris Watson (musician), Chris Watson. Named for Cabaret Voltaire (Zürich), the Zürich nightclub that fostered the early Dada movement, the band are often characterized as among the most innovative and influential Electronic music, electronic acts of their era. The band's early work consisted of experimentation with Do it yourself, DIY electronics and tape recorders, as well as Dada-influenced performance art, helping to pioneer industrial music in the mid-1970s. John Robie is an American musician, producer and songwriter. He has produced and/or written for such artists as: Chaka Khan, New Order, UB40, Cabaret Voltaire, Soulsonic Force, Boy George, Planet Patrol, Laura Branigan, and Freeez, among others. Career Robie launched his career as the co-writer and synthesizer "wizard" on '' Planet Rock'' by Soulsonic Force. Robie subsequently went on to produce other hits for Soulsonic Force; Looking for the Perfect Beat and Renegades of Funk (later covered by Rage Against The Machine), and continued to pursue an experimental approach towards electronic music, which resulted in his help pioneering a completely new musical genre, '' Electro''. It was recorded at the Tsubaki House in Tokyo, Japan on 23 March 1982, and was released on CD in 1991 by Mute Records Ltd.
