Yamba Dam
is a dam in Naganohara, Agatsuma District, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Construction began in 1967, with effective completion in October 2019 and the official opening on 1 April 2020. The dam's construction had seen sustained local opposition and a ballooning budget, and a change of National government in 2009 resulted in the project being halted, being about 70% completed at the time. Agatsuma River
The is a major river in the northern Kantō region of Japan. It is in length and has a basin area of . Located entirely within Gunma Prefecture, it is one of the prefecture's major rivers. It is also a major tributary of the Tone River. The river is an important source of hydroelectric power, and 17 power plants are located on its banks. A gravity dam is a dam constructed from concrete or stone masonry and designed to hold back water by using only the weight of the material and its resistance against the foundation. Gravity dams are designed so that each section of the dam is stable and independent of any other dam section.
