Yamaha Broad Bass
The Yamaha Broad Bass (often abbreviated as BB), is the third model of bass originally produced by Yamaha, first released in 1977. Description The BB Bass is differentiated from the Yamaha Super Bass, a Yamaha version of Fender's Fender Jazz Bass, and the Yamaha Precision Bass, which is Yamaha's version of Fender's Fender Precision Bass by the neck-through body, and the pick-up and body shape. The Broad Bass was conceived to pander to a western audience, after the SB and PB basses almost only sold in Japan. The Fender Jazz Bass (often shortened to "J-Bass") is the second model of Bass guitar, electric bass guitar created by Leo Fender. It is distinct from the Fender Precision Bass, Precision Bass in that its tone is brighter and richer in the midrange and treble with less emphasis on the Harmonic series (music), fundamental frequency. Fender Precision Bass
The Fender Precision Bass (or "P-Bass") is a model of bass guitar, electric bass guitar manufactured by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. In its standard, post-1957 configuration, the Precision Bass is a solid body, four-stringed instrument usually equipped with a single split-coil humbucker, humbucking pickup and a one-piece, 20-fret maple neck with rosewood or maple fingerboard. Its prototype was designed by Leo Fender in 1950 and the Precision was brought to market in 1951. It was the first electric bass guitar to earn widespread attention and use, remaining among the best-selling and most-imitated electric bass guitars with considerable effect on the sound of popular music. Fretless Bass
A fretless bass is an electric bass guitar whose neck lacks frets and thus is smooth like traditional string instruments, and like the neck of an acoustic double bass. While the fretless bass is played in all styles of music, it is most common in pop, rock, and jazz. It first saw widespread use during the 1970s, although some players used them before then. The Fender Precision Bass was introduced in 1951, with frets to help performers find the proper note (''i.e.'' to provide ''precision''). Peter Hook
Peter Hook (born 13 February 1956) is an English musician. He was the bassist and co-founder of the post-punk band Joy Division and its successor New Order. He often used the bass as a lead instrument, playing melodies on the high strings with a signature heavy chorus effect. Along with Bernard Sumner, Hook formed the band which was to become Joy Division in 1976. Following the death of lead singer Ian Curtis in 1980, the band reformed as New Order, and Hook played bass with them until 2007.
