Yallahs River

	Yallahs River The Yallahs River is a river in the parish of Saint Thomas, Jamaica. Major landslides have developed in the Upper Yallahs River Watershed. As a result, the river carries a greater silt load and scours its banks far more quickly. The Yallahs Ford downstream has widened tremendously, leaving the coastal route vulnerable to inundation after heavy rainstorms. 	Saint Thomas Parish, Jamaica Saint Thomas(), once known as ''Saint Thomas in the East'', is a suburban parish situated at the south eastern end of Jamaica, within the county of Surrey. It is the birthplace of Paul Bogle, designated in 1969 as one of Jamaica's seven National Heroes. Morant Bay, its chief town and capital, is the site of the Morant Bay Rebellion in 1865, of which Bogle was a leader. Representative George William Gordon, a wealthy mixed race businessman and politician from this district, was tried and executed in 1865 under martial law on suspicion of directing the rebellion. Governor Eyre was forced to resign due to the controversy over his execution of Gordon and violent suppression of the rebellion. Gordon was designated in 1969 as a National Hero. 	Yallahs Yallahs, a town on the southeastern coast of Jamaica in the parish of St Thomas, is home to approximately 10,000 residents. The city, which was documented as “Yealoth” in a 1662 census, may have derived its name from Captain Yallahs, a privateer from 1671, or vice versa. Another theory suggests that the name Yallahs could have originated from the Spanish word ‘yalos’, which means frost, as the high white cliffs in the area might give an impression of frost. As one of the main towns in St Thomas, Yallahs transforms from a bustling urban center during the day to a relaxed yet vibrant scene at night, with streets lined with pan-chicken stalls and small pubs filled with patrons enjoying reggae music.
