Cross River State
Cross River State is a state in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Named for the Cross River, the state was formed from the eastern part of the Eastern Region on 27 May 1967. The state has its capital as Calabar and is bordered to the north by Benue State, to the west by Ebonyi State and Abia State, and to the southwest by Akwa Ibom State while its eastern border forms part of the national border with Cameroon. Ugep
Ugep (also Umor) is a town in the Yakurr Local Government Area in Cross River State, southern Nigeria. The village is populated by the Yakurr people. Ugep as it is popularly known is one of the unit that constitute Yakurr, and its indigenes speak the Lokaa Language which is the general language spoken in Yakurr. Ugep originated from a place or village called “''Akpa''” in the Eastern Ejagham race in the Central senatorial district of Cross River State, Nigeria. The reason why the people of Ugep left Akpa was due to a religious clash between the two paternal families that makes up Akpa in the ritual rites performance in the death of a person from either of the tribe. Usani Uguru Usani (born 27 January 1961) is a Nigerian pastor, lecturer and politician who served as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs in the Nigerian government. Early life and education Usani was born on 27 January 1961 in Nko, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State. Career Usani is a pastor. Ekori
Ekori is a community in Yakurr, Nigeria. Language and culture The native language is Lokaa. English is the official language; other languages spoken in Ekori include pidgin English, which most West African people understand. Leboku is the New Yam festival or harvest thanksgiving often celebrated in Ekori during the month of September. Another fascinating cultural event in Ekori is popularly known as KEPU (wrestling), practised when celebrating men and women who have attained a certain age bracket. According to Daryll Forde, 1964 (Yako Studies) this community is the second largest in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Obubra is a Local Government Area (LGA) of Cross River State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Obubra, which is home to the Ibrahim Babangida College of Agriculture. The National Youth Service Corps, Cross River State Orientation Camp is situated in Obubra town. The word Obubra is derived from 'Ubibira or Ubira', the name of Obubra main village at the bank of the Cross river. Obubra however, was used to represent an administrative unit under the British colonial empire in the late 19th century.
