Yakubiyah
Al-Yacoubiyah (, ; also spelled Yacoubiyeh, Yakoubieh, Yacoubeh or Yaqoubiyah) is a Christian village in north-west Syria, administratively part of the Jisr ash-Shugur District, subordinate to the Idlib Governorate, located west of Idlib and just southeast of the border with Turkey. It is situated in a well-forested mountain above the Orontes River, with an elevation of 480 meters above sea level. Nearby localities include Qunaya adjacent to the east, Kafr Debbin further to the east, the ''nahiyah'' ("subdistrict") center of al-Janudiyah to the south, al-Malnad to the west and Zarzur to the north. According to the Syria Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), al-Yacoubiyah had a population of 476 in the 2004 census. The Armenians in Syria are Syrian citizens of either full or partial Armenians, Armenian descent. Syria and the surrounding areas have often served as a refuge for Armenians who fled from wars and persecutions such as the Armenian genocide. However, there has been an Armenian presence in the region since the Byzantine era. According to the Ministry of Diaspora of Armenia, the estimated number of Armenians in Syria is 100,000, with more than 60,000 of them centralized in Aleppo. With other estimates by Armenian foundations in Syria putting the number around 70–80,000. However, since the start of the conflict, 16,623 Syrian citizens of ethnic Armenian background have arrived in Armenia. Saint Hripsime Church
Saint Hripsime Church is a seventh-century Armenian Apostolic church in the city of Vagharshapat (Etchmiadzin), Armenia. It was built in 618 by Catholicos Komitas over the tomb of Hripsime, a Roman virgin murdered by Tiridates III and a key figure in the Christianization of Armenia. Standing largely intact since its construction, the church has been widely admired for its architecture and proportions.
