Yakido
The Yakido () is a Japanese list of chicken breeds, breed of cockfight, fighting chicken. It belongs to the Shamo chickens, Shamo group of breeds. It was bred in the Kansai region in southern Honshu in the mid-nineteenth century. It was made a Natural Monument of Japan in 1950. History The Yakido derives from the Shamo chickens, Shamo group of cockfight, fighting chicken breeds, which are thought to descend from birds of Ayam Kampong, Malay type brought from Thailand in the early part of the seventeenth century, during the Edo period. The Yakido was bred in Mie Prefecture, in Kansai region in southern Honshu, in the mid-nineteenth century, in the late Edo period. Shamo Chickens
is an overall designation for gamefowl in Japan. There are seven recognised list of chicken breeds, breeds of Shamo chicken in Japan, all of which are designated Natural Monuments of Japan. The Shamo breeds are thought to derive from fighting chickens of Ayam Kampong, Malay type brought from Thailand in the early part of the seventeenth century. Cockfighting is a blood sport involving domesticated roosters as the combatants. The first documented use of the word gamecock, denoting use of the cock as to a "game", a sport, pastime or entertainment, was recorded in 1634, after the term "cock of the game" used by George Wilson, in the earliest known book on the sport of cockfighting in ''The Commendation of Cocks and Cock Fighting'' in 1607. Sparring is a form of training common to many combat sports. Comb (anatomy)
A comb is a fleshy growth or crest on the top of the head of some Galliformes, gallinaceous birds, such as domestic chickens. The alternative name cockscomb (with several #Spelling variations, spelling variations) reflects the fact that combs are generally larger on cock birds than on hens. The comb is one of several fleshy protuberances on the heads of chickens, the others being the Wattle (anatomy), wattles and earlobes, which collectively are called Caruncle (bird anatomy), caruncles.
