Yafeth
Japheth ( ''Yép̄eṯ'', in pausa ''Yā́p̄eṯ''; '; ; ') is one of the three sons of Noah in the Book of Genesis, in which he plays a role in the story of Noah's drunkenness and the curse of Ham, and subsequently in the Table of Nations as the ancestor of the peoples of the Aegean Sea, Anatolia, Caucasus, Greece, and elsewhere in Eurasia. In medieval and early modern European tradition he was considered to be the progenitor of the European peoples. Etymology The meaning of the name ''Japheth'' (: ''y-p-t'') is disputable. There are two possible sources to the meaning of the name: * From the Aramaic root (''p-t-h''), meaning "to extend". Promptuarii Iconum Insigniorum
() is a compilation of woodcut portraits published in 1553 by Guillaume Rouillé, a French merchant-publisher active in the early modern book trade of Lyon. Originally released in Latin, French, and Italian editions, the book presents portraits in a medallion format, arranged mostly in chronological order. It spans figures from the Old Testament and Greco-Roman mythology to notable individuals of the mid-16th century. Many of these portraits are imaginative rather than historically accurate, shaped by Rouillé's interpretations of physiognomy and the engraver's artistic discretion. Though the engraver remains unidentified in the text, 19th-century bibliographer Henri-Louis Baudrier attributed the work to .
