Yadenitsa
The Yadenitsa () is a 26 km-long river in southern Bulgaria, a right tributary of the river Maritsa. Geography The river takes its source under the name Kurtovsko Dere at an altitude of 1,992 m, about 1.7 km north of the now abandoned Hristo Smirnenski Refuge in the Chakaritsa locality, eastern Rila mountain range. It initially flows southwards and southeast of the refuge turns east, and then northeast in a narrow steep valley that forms the orographic boundary between the major mountain ranges Rila and Rhodope. At the village of Golyamo Belovo the Yadenitsa valley widens and 3 km downstream it flows into the Maritsa at an altitude of 317 m near the town of Belovo. Its drainage basin covers a territory of 138 km2 or 0.26% of Maritsa's total. The river has snow-rain feed with high water in April–May and low water in September. Belovo, Bulgaria
Belovo ( ) is a town in South West Bulgaria. It is the seat of Belovo Municipality. It is located in Pazardzhik Province, where the Yadenitsa flows into the Maritsa river, at the foot of three mountain ranges (Rila, Rhodopes and Sredna Gora), on the western end of the Thracian Plain. Belovo town as a municipal center is surrounded by the villages of Akandzhievo, Gabrovitsa, Golyamo Belovo, Dabravite, Menekyovo, Momina Klisura, and Sestrimo. Rila (, ) is the highest mountain range of Bulgaria, the Balkans, Balkan Peninsula, and Southeast Europe. It is situated in southwestern Bulgaria and forms part of the Rila–Rhodope Mountains, Rhodope Massif. The highest summit is Musala at an elevation of 2,925 m which makes Rila the sixth highest mountain range in Europe after the Caucasus, the Alps, Sierra Nevada (Spain), Sierra Nevada, the Pyrenees and Mount Etna, and the highest one between the Alps and the Caucasus. Rhodope Mountains
The Rhodopes (; , ; , ''Rodopi''; ) are a mountain range in Southeastern Europe, and the largest by area in Bulgaria, with over 83% of its area in the southern part of the country and the remainder in Greece. Chaira Hydro Power Plant
The Chaira Pumped Storage Hydro Power Plant (Chaira PSHPP) was built in the Rila mountain range, about southeast of Bulgaria's capital city, Sofia. Part of the major Belmeken–Sestrimo–Chaira Hydropower Cascade, Chaira has generating capacity of and a pumping capacity of . The power plant is equipped with four reversible Francis turbine, Francis pump-turbines, each rated at in the generating mode, and in pumping mode. Units 1 and 2 have been in operation since 1995, and at that time Chaira was the largest pumped-storage plant in southeast Europe with the highest head in the world for a single-stage pump turbine ( generating and pumping).
