Yacub Sarraf
Yacoub Riad Sarraf (; born 1961) is a Lebanese politician. He was born in the town of Miniara in the Akkar district of northern Lebanon. Biography Sarraf, who is a Greek Orthodox Christian, has degrees in civil engineering and architecture from the American University of Beirut. He has two children. Sarraf worked for companies in Greece, France and Lebanon before being named governor of Beirut in 1999. In 2003 he became governor of Mount Lebanon. Close to President Émile Lahoud, he was involved in numerous political clashes with the Beirut municipal council and with Rafiq Hariri. Émile Lahoud had him appointed Minister of the Environment in the Fouad Siniora government formed in July 2005. He held the post of Minister of Defense in an interim capacity while Elias Murr was convalescing from an assassination attempt of July 12, 2005. Yaqub ibn Ishaq ibn Ibrahim ibn Azar ( , ), later given the name Israil (, ), is recognized by Muslims as an Islamic prophet. Jiyeh Power Station Oil Spill
The Jiyeh Power Station oil spill is an environmental disaster caused by the release of Fuel oil, heavy fuel oil into the eastern Mediterranean after storage tanks at the thermal power station in Jieh, Jiyeh, Lebanon, south of Beirut, were bombed by the Israeli Air force on July 14 and July 15, 2006 during the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict. The plant's damaged tanks leaked up to 30,000 tonnes of oil into the eastern Mediterranean Sea, A 10 km wide oil slick covered 170 km of coastline, and threatened Turkey and Cyprus. The slick killed fish, threatened the habitat of endangered green sea turtles, and potentially increased the risk of cancer. Although Al Jazeera Media Network, Al Jazeera compared the scale of the oil spill to that of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, later assessment found that the volume spilled was 15 000 - 30 000 tonnes compared to 42 000 tonnes for the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Saad El-Din Rafik Al-Hariri ( ; born 18 April 1970) is a Lebanese people, Lebanese businessman and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Lebanon, prime minister of Lebanon from 2009 to 2011 and 2016 to 2020. Thermal Power Station
A thermal power station, also known as a thermal power plant, is a type of power station in which the heat energy generated from various fuel sources (e.g., coal, natural gas, nuclear fuel, etc.) is converted to electrical energy. The heat from the source is converted into mechanical energy using a thermodynamic power cycle (such as a Diesel cycle, Rankine cycle, Brayton cycle, etc.). The most common cycle involves a working fluid (often water) heated and boiled under high pressure in a pressure vessel to produce high-pressure steam. This high pressure-steam is then directed to a turbine, where it rotates the turbine's blades. The rotating turbine is mechanically connected to an electric generator which converts rotary motion into electricity. Fuels such as natural gas or oil can also be burnt directly in gas turbines ( internal combustion), skipping the steam generation step. Jieh
Jieh (or Jiyé, Jiyeh, ) is a seaside town in Lebanon with an estimated population of 5000, 23 km south of Beirut, in the Chouf District via a 20-minute drive along the Beirut to Sidon highway south of the capital. In Phoenician times, it was known as Porphyreon and was a thriving natural seaport, which still functions today. The town is also known for its seven-kilometre sandy beach, which is a rarity along Lebanon's rocky coastline. The Biblical prophet Jonah was said to have landed on its shores when he was spat out of the giant fish described in the Hebrew Bible, and a temple was built which stands until today. Many invaders passed through Porphyreon such as Tohomtmos the Egyptian who landed his soldiers on its natural seaport in order to fight the North. Elias Murr (, '; born 30 January 1962) is a Lebanese politician and an International political figure. Early life and education Murr was born on 30 January 1962 in Bteghrine. He is the son of former deputy Prime Minister and interior minister, Michel Murr. He holds a master's degree in law. He was married to the daughter of former President Emile Lahoud. Political career Elias Murr started his political career as the mayor of Bteghrine, his hometown, from 1982 till 1996.
